After reading this and other linked threads recently I bought a water tester, looking to reduce the water spots when I want to give the car a quick wash and walk away without drying. I am finding I am doing this more especially over the winter period with spare time fitting in with reduced day light etc. Reading from our water here in the North East is 152ppm:

Close to pulling the trigger on the Vyair, makes more sense cost wise especially if you two lads, @pxr5 and @SPIKE_S3, are still happy with them?

Mate, whichever one you go for. 0ppm is a godsend. My water down here in the Cotswolds is over 250ppm. Whilst it is obvious to use this loads over the summer with hot weather, many times over the winter I just prewash/snowfoam and then rinse with pressure washer, and final rinse with 0ppm. I even use it to fill my windscreen washer. A quality tip from @cuke2u

Yep, still happy with mine. Used it for 3 different cars at the weekend. It's great that I can do the final rinse then just leave the car alone while I can get with other things. Weird leaving it wet, to dry in the sun, but well worth it.

Echo this! It is a strange feeling letting the car air dry, whereas I used to freak out getting it dried quickly before water spots formed.

So excuse my ignorance but is what comes out of the Vyair comparable with “mineral water”

Only Aldi are doing 8litres of Buxton (I think it was !) spring water for 99p !!

Ok so gave the car a very quick wash last night, pre wash and a good blast with the jet washer which I ran through the Vyair to flush the old hose out as the new hose just arrived this morning. This followed a good rinse with just the hose.

Checking a couple of hours later I could not see any water spots at all. There was a little water sat on the roof as it had not evaporated so went out after another couple of hours to check on these. Gone without a trace!

I can say with 100% confidence that the above process without the Vyair would have left the car with more spots than a dalmatian.

I know I have just used this the once and part of me feels its too good to be true but yeah I think your both right @q5man I will wonder and @SPIKE_S3 I think this will become a cracking investment.

So thanks all for the info!

After use do you guys empty the water from the vessel? Or would you loose some of the resin goodness doing this? I just put it in the garage last night and wondered after.

Glad you are happy, comes into its own, especially when warmer. No need to empty, but check water is still 0ppm every now and again. I have had mine for just over a year and only refilled once. Bought a 25kg resin bag for about £65. (Currently £74, but fluctuates) I know @cuke2u looking for a deal on resin (as the place I used has got more pricey), but worth having a browse and buy if you find a deal.

    Hey Guys,

I’m in a hard water area (North Hampshire) I normally wash weekly, or after a long motorway run.

My normal wash routine is as follows:
    • Snowfoam using mains water and power washer
    • Rinse off using power washer
    • Bucket hand shampoo and wash with microfibre glove
    • Stored rainwater rinse (pumped to hosepipe with spray gun, not power-washed)
    • Microfibre cloth dry-off
I always dry off, and don’t leave it to air dry.

I’ve just gotten a water tester and tested levels as follow:
    • Normal mains tap water - 235ppm
    • Stored rainwater - 33ppm
My question is, would I benefit from adding a DI filter, and if so should I run it on the mains water feed - so my Karcher runs filtered water, or just on the stored rainwater, as a final rinse?

The car is ceramic coated if that makes a difference.

    Cheers! :racer:

    John.

Hi john, if your happy with the system you are using I would keep it as is mate.
Cannot imagine if 33ppm would be noticeable from 0ppm on the waterside of things.

John, I would say yes, as when my DI resin needed changing, I was starting to to water marks and when I tested the water it was single figure ppm. My normal ppm here is 250+.

I know your rain water is way better than mains, but still 33ppm. Would also question whether there would be particles in the water.

My car is also coated, you even notice how the filtered water falls off the car compared to normal

If I go with a resin based DI (Vyair 11L looks fav at the moment) does it need quite a high pressure to get the water through the resin?

I’m pumping from stored rainwater (Hozelock water butt pump) that has a max pressure of 1.1bar.

I don’t know the vyair, as I have 7L raceglaze, but I use mains into resin and separate hose. I am sure you will be fine with your setup

@RAF_S7 did you buy one? I have a lot of stored rain water but on black it's not low enough PPM to be spot free.

    Yes I did.

I went with the Vyair 11lt, which you can buy filled with resin for about £95 (eBay or direct)

Works fine with my Hozelock rain barrel pump.

My rainwater ppm before was 33, now zero using the Vyair. Did the first final rinse with it on Tuesday, any it certainly made drying off much easier.

I’ve not left it to air dry yet, maybe next time :racer:

Your resin will last SO much longer if only 33ppm to start with

The only thing I would wonder/worry about would be any small bits of debris that would be collected along with the rainwater, but pump may deal with this.

Can I ask what length of hose are you using after the DI vessel? I was thinking about buying a cheap 10m length for this.

Anyone using the Vyair one with their pressure washer?

I am using a 15m hose with the Vyair 11L and Karcher K5 Compact. No issues with pressure straight from the hose but I have been using the PW for final rinse. Someone mentioned that it uses less water this way so make sense to do so.

I use just enough to get to the back of the car with my Vyair. Mains tap pressure works fine for me. Only takes a minute to whizz round.

Use Karcher K4 for snow foam or pre rinse only using mains water.....

I use probably a 15m, but 10m should be fine. Don’t have vyair but use raceglaze through PW, uses WAY less water, and cleans out PW at same time

I don't think I explained very well. :) I'd assumed most people are doing...

    Tap->Hose->DI vessel->Shorter Hose length.

The "how long" question was directed at this last "shorter hose length". It sounds like a few of you are doing...

Tap->DI Vessel->Hose with possibly pressure washer after this.

    Scotty, So I do:

    - tap
    - short hose
    - Di vessel
    - short hose (out of Di vessel)
    - PW
    - Car

But also have separate hose reel I use sometimes if I want more of a heavier rinse or to top up windscreen washer, in which case the PW above is replaced by 15m hose reel

    My set up:
    Tap
Short hose, 3 meters ish to take it out of the garage (back door)
    Vessel
    15m hose to the drive
Preasure is fine from this to rinse car but I am using this hose to connect to PW

Yes I use a shorter hose, about a foot, to the Raceglaze vessel from the outside tap, which then is turn is connected to my hose reel...
