when using an online car insurance comparison form, what drop-down option do you choose for a dechrome?

I can't see any that would fit...

Is there a generic 'cosmetic/styling mod' option?

Try a club specialist and you won't have to worry about it :)

Unfortunately it's not possible to cover 100% of people (just like any other insurer) but we do expect to be able to help a large section of the membership. In terms of competitiveness, this forum's members saved 30% on average against their existing invited renewal in 2020 (where disclosed), so the CK offering does work well for those within scope. That is a little high and I wouldn't anticipate it being that high continually but nevertheless there are savings to be made. This is historically proven savings data rather than a promise (like some) to give an x% member discount when their starting price is unknown.

..........well Admiral & Churchill have never been a problem when I've insured my RS cars in the past, in fact there quotes have come in a lot less than some of the ''specialist insures'' that could be bothered to quote.

Admiral just quoted me £10,000 with no mods, for an Audi S5. Elephant around the same too.

Yes, you read that correctly. 10 thousand pounds. No fault claims, 4 years no claims, license held for 4 years.

absolutely mental.

Aviva have come in strong at £1490.

Chris Knotts said they'd cover me through a 3rd party provider called Highways(LV Group company) but the reviews for them aren't great and it's putting me off.

Yeah, it's not about being bothered - it's about whether the end insurer is prepared to take on the risk presented. Most, if not all, of the specialists are brokers so don't have any control over what's acceptable to the insurer and what isn't. Glad you found cover elsewhere though for your needs.

Hi, we've been using Highway and LV= for many, many years and have always found them to be fair and honourable. Remember that people are often quick to leave negative feedback and you rarely get to hear about the outweighing positive experiences. As your broker you've got the backup that we're here to help if you do have any issues at all.

I've just checked with the team to see if we have anyone else available but that's it. If it offers any more reassurance, we have strong relationships with the leadership team at Highway/LV= at the highest level.

That's mental as I'm with Admiral and it's "only" £700 for the year. Goes to show how much location makes a difference, as I'm assuming I have a lot less years NCD and experience.

ultimately, in the event of any claim, i'd be dealing direct with Highways, is that correct?

You'd deal with our claims service and they'd deal with the insurer. We're then also available in the background if you need us to step in at all. If you'd gone direct to an insurer when you bought the policy then you'd have no support - it'd be just you and them.
