Finaly I have found the time to get on and order the De-cat pipe for my car and then get it booked in for a map, do I need to do anything else in regards removing the cat?

    Cheers
    Matt

Should just be that... should just be... depends which decat pipe you got, I have a history of decat pipes being an absolute pain to fit or not fitting at all so I just go an exhaust place and get them to make me one or a turbo back exhaust now.

I have the pipe coming from Darkside Developments then it will go for a Revo map, I’ll probably chuck one of their panel filters in as well.

    Good to hear Matt.

Please re-consider the Remap from Revo. Your best bet with our old cars is to get a live custom map. Much better results and suited to YOUR car rather than a generic off the shelf version.

I hear what your saying, the only reason for the Revo map was the company doing it is known to us. I could try searching for a local company that does custom maps, trouble is as soon as you chuck a “ which remap” thread up you get a million different answers.

Nothing wrong with a generic remap and a decat or full system .

Very true. I see what you mean also.

As @Gazwould says below, I do agree, there isn't anything wrong per se but for the BEST results I would consider a live custom map.

What would you get out of it over a generic remap ?

Im quite surprised you would ask that Gaz. Your knowledge is obviously highly respected.

..So as you know a generic map is going to be a map produced in certain environment using a guinea pig car. Ok its tried and tested probably many times over but how could it possilby be better than an expert VAG tuner who dials in all off the appropriates based on what YOUR car is producing.

A generic map might produce x bhp and x torque, standard. But a live map will be able to toggle these based on the health of the car.

Sorry but I would never get an off the shelf map.

Some incredible 'live' mappers in the VAG scene.

But also based upon the skill of one person on the day.

A generic can be tested for months over a couple of cars .

In this particular application the most you will see is 180 bhp and a generic can do that .

If I can find a custom mapper in my area I guess it won’t hurt to talk to them and see what they can offer, if not I’m quite happy to go with the Revo stage 1.

    Totally agree.

In the 180bhp application, even more so!

Yes. Thing is, its also about expectation. If you're happy with a off the shelf map which is proven to produce a certain power increase then it definitely wont hurt.

    :)

I ran a tunit chip on it for years and that preformed well, it was only removed as the car developed a flat spot on pull away son it was a process of elimination, after a little while of the chip being removed the flat spot seemed to disappear, however I obviously miss the extra powe and increased mpg hence the thinking behind the remap.

I see! Yes process of elimination would be te map itself. Glad you had success with it.

Revo are trusted anyway so if you go this route, Im sure (for you requirments) it will be perfect!

    Lol at custom right.

Ok so the guy cloned his company name after REVO and offers custom maps.

*Edit* Ok fair enough his surname is 'Bevan' :tearsofjoy: So maybe Revo was created by his brother 'Peter Revan'.

Perhaps visit him and see what he's about

I can’t find anybody local to me that offers a true custom mapmand for a car I hardly use now I’m not prepared to travel miles, so will probably just stick with the Revo as it’s the same price and anywhere else, they all start cheaper but then add extras so the price creeps up.

    Fair enough. That makes sense.

Let us know how it goes. Looking forward to seeing the gains.

Well I popped over to see the guy that I was going to use to do the map just for a chat about options, however he expressed concerns about doing a map on a vehicle that’s done 196k and is on its original turbo. Now I’m not saying he wouldn’t do it but I got the impression he wasn’t over confident on me being happy with the results, the cat being restricted was also mentioned but as I’m in the process of doing a cat delete that was of no concern. I feel my options are a bit more limited now and I may look into having the turbo rebuilt as a genuine one is just unrealistically priced. Any opinions or recommendations for a turbo rebuild?

Could always swap it out for a BV43 then get a map, probably need a more custom one though and the turbo's generally go for a couple quid more so if your on a budget I guess rebuilding is the best option, could get it ported and a billet wheel (if this is even possible, can't say I've really looked into stock turbo's much just thinking if it's being rebuilt you may as well).

I’m not on a budget as such it’s more that the car is as good as 16 years old with 196k on it, it’s just not worth spending silly amounts of money on any more. I’m currently browsing the net for replacement turbos but would much rather deal with someone that come by reccomendation.

A bit of a stale mate then Matty. I have to be honest. Because he has a point. Even top tuners like R-Tech will tune a turbo on 196k BUT advise the turbo may and truly be on its last legs.

You can get it mapped and see how long it lasts.

Or shop around for a cheap better condition one to replace your knackered one. Im sure you will eventually find one on FB market place.

Yep does feel a bit like back to square one, not quite sure what to do, he was not saying my turbo is knackered but it’s bound to be a very weak point after any sort of map, maybe it’s time to finally go for a B8.

Never done it on a b6 but surely it's not too tricky to check for play/damage on the turbine by whipping the intake off or something like this, I'd just max out the turbo out 'till it dies if your not too bothered about the car, guess a map and dyno will suggest how well the turbo is working/not working too :icon thumright:

If it goes it was gonna go anyway .

Remapped inc decat to 175+bhp on 160K original turbo and now it's done 20K more .

To Be honest, im in no doubt that the vehicle is strong enough to take it, it just puts horror thoughts through your mind of exploding turbos and doing other damage, although mine has a high mileage it has been quite easy, mostly motorway so engine nice and warm and low revs.
