Dashcam not running from usb

Does any one run their dashcam from the usb port instead of the ciggy lighter port?

The dashcam goes into data transfer mode whenever I plug it in to any of the usb ports. This same cam used to run on my Merc A class from USB but doesn't in A3.

Probably because the USB port isn’t just a power port like a power bank or 12v socket adapter but also a data port. Even though the devices can’t talk to each other, the dash cam recognises the car’s USB port as data capable.

If you want to avoid it, buy a USB condom (it’s a thing...) disables the data pins

Now to wipe my browser history rather than have to answer why I was googling condom...... (aka USB data blocker)

You can cover the data pins with a bit of insulation tape, works a treat.
