Hi all,

Ive had my 1.8T cabriolet Quattro (BFB) over 2 years now and thought its about time I document everything I've done so far.

Firstly, thank you very much to all those members that helped me along the way. Some exceptional people on here :)

My Story

I bought the Cabby completely bone stock as seen in the below pic. I got a cracking deal on it so couldn't resist really.
IMG 0090

I had a vision from the start, and that was to make it more 'aggressive' looking in every way and give it an updated feel.

1st Mod – Wheels and tyres.
I had no frame of reference but all I know is that I felt 19's were too small for the Cabby so was looking around for examples for it on 20's. I came across 'DeckedM' on here (no longer a member) and his cabby and was amazed right from the very beginning!

So I proceeded to buy the RS6 5 spokes in gloss black (9inch ET35) as everything on my car which was silver had the plan of being de-chromed in gloss black.

I went for Nankang nsII's 235/30/20.
Initially I went for a set up that kept it within the 5% +/_ rolling radius recommendation. Pic below.
IMG 0093

IMG 0121

Unfortunately this didnt last as the stretch was horrendous in my opinion not to mention the lack of profile. On London roads this is a BRAVE move to say the least.

2nd Mod – LED number plate light and Xenon headlight up grade.
Bought a pair of super bright LED Festoon bulbs and proceeded to take out the old bulbs and replace them with the new LED's. Removing the old screws were an absolute nightmare as they were rounded off because they were practically made of cheese. Had to drill them and with needle nose pliers, get them out. Pic below.

IMG 0039

(This was then further upgraded to even brighter ones which will be shown at the end of this thread thus far..)

I had never done installed Xenons before so with the help of you guys on here decided to have a stab at it. VERY pleased with the results..
IMG 0108

Pic at end.

3rd Mod – B7 Cabriolet Rear Tail lights retro fit.
Sourcing these lights were quite simple, found Eurocar parts to be the best price and of course they were OEM. Instead of doing the wiring myself or with the help of a member on here, I decided to go for the non hassle approach and purchased the 'Kufatec' adapter from Ebay.de

This was a plug and play mod really. Swap out the B6 Cab light housing for the B7 Cab ones, then put the kufatec adapter on the appropriate side to cancel the error on the dis. Reason being, the B7 cab rear lights have just one reverse light so you have to 'trick' the electrics of the car into thinking the other one is functional when its not.

A very friendly fellow forum member on here helped me 'code in' in the lights too using VCDS. This needs to be done otherwise the top break light on the new lights will be at 25% on. So, you need to set it to 0%. Pic below.

IMG 2209

4th Mod – Gloss Black exterior Trim Wrap
I took my car to a local wrapping specialist (Dare Wraps – Chertsey) and proceeded to get all the exterior de-chromed in one go. Minus the Grills. Pic below. Check the night shot out!! :)

My B6 Cab De chromed

IMG 1181

Half a year later, I developed 2 punctures in the fronts whilst the rears remained solid. Decided enough was enough and opted for the most maximum tread recommended over a 9inch wide wheel. So, I chose to run 265's all around. Stuck with Nankang brand as they impressed me so far. Hard compound tyre which is what I wanted for harsh London Roads. Slightly different tread pattern which supposedly has an 'A' rating in the wet. Pic below.

Also, put some black Audi centre caps to match.

IMG 1671

I Chose to run 265/30/20 instead of 235/35/20 for stretch issues and speedometer issues. My current set up is only 1% out the recommended 5% +/_ Having said that the ride quality would be a lot better on any 35 profile.

5th Mod – 50% Window Tints all around
I decided to go for the lightest tints as ive always been a fan of the smoked look. NOT blacked out. It offers just enough 'privacy' during the day without being over the top. Pic below..washed too.

IMG 1696

6th Mod – LED fog lights
As mentioned in a previous posting, the install is straight forward but getting LED's with enough lighting power is a mine field. In the end, I got 'CREE' LED fogs which are nice and bright and match my 6000k xenons. You need to get the H11 Resistors so they dont throw up errors on the DIS again.
Pic below.

IMG 1792

7th Mod – All 4 front Grills painted gloss black, B7 Cabriolet final edition rear valance install painted gloss black, rear Audi badge removal for Gloss black version.

Pic of grills

IMG 2219

The rear valance removal was a small pain in the a*se! There are 2 screws underneath easily accessible and removed. But the 2 on very edges ended up being pop rivets. They needed to be drilled out as pulling them out wont do it.

IMG 1976

De-badging was straight forward. Dental floss in between the badge and the body of the car will do it. After badge removal, Spray 'sticky stuff' remover on area with glue still left on..leave for 10 minutes and remove.

IMG 2360

8th Mod – Full LED lighting interior.
Replaced all 4 footwells, 2x dome lights (for the cab), glove box and boot for nice clean white LEDs. The install was incredibly frustrating. The A lot of the time my face was wedged in between the rear seats and foot carpets due to the fact that when you are prying the light housing out, the connectors are so damn short they were tucked in the recess. Phrased another way, I couldn't pull the light housing (with light inside) off the connector as I may not be able to put it back in!! So, I had to do this with a torch and trust what I was feeling haha as I most of the time I couldn't see!

PLEASE dont be as dim as me. I installed one of the LED's the right way around but because the footwell lights (and door lights) disappear after 10-15mins I thought it wasn't working. Any guesses what I did next?? Yep, so I change them twice for nothing..

After all that, the results were simply amazing if I do say so myself. I went from the old dated dull yellow to a really nice high end white. Gives the cockpit such an updated feel. Fell in love all over again with my car. Pics below.

Nice one Dan looking good.

Quick question, with the b7 rear lights, did you find you lost any reversing light? I like them, but I like being able to see when reversing better..

Hi Matt,

Thanks pal.

Sorry for the slow answer!

Unfortunately, when you upgrade to the B7 Cab lights you 'lose' one reverse light in the process as the B7 Cab only comes with one.
So, you have to get the Kufatec error resistor to cancel out the 'bulb out error' on the DIS.

Hello mate, thanks for the reply. I know about losing one light, but do you actually notice it when reversing? Like is there less light? It's hard enough seeing out the back of the cab (unless roof is down), I don't want to see even less.

Anytime.

Ah, I see..yes to be quite honest you do lose vision when reversing at night as its not so bright having one light.

A great way to combat this is getting a LED Cree reverse light. They are super bright! Will do this install at some point. (Also going for reverse cameras as I cant see squat out the back window lol)

Yeah, unless the roof is down I rely on the sensors basically.

So that's what I thought, the 2 lights are better than one. Seems simple really lol. I'll look at the Cree reversing light.

I do really like the b7 lights but also like the 2 reverse lights. What to do lol. Let me know how the camera works out. I would do it myself (with the OEM camera, looks so nice), but can't really be bothered to take seats out and pull up the carpet.

Haha, I dont even have sensors Matt.

Im relying on the old method of, ''a little more, brake, a little more, brake..''

Yeah I totally hear you on that as I didnt like the thought of losing one reverse light. One thing I will say, is it gives the back end of the car a GREAT updated feel! You wouldnt want it off after installing it.

Also, at night when you've got the tail light on, it lights up as a square ring..its very nice haha.

Will do RE: reverse camera. But Ive got so many mods to come before this!

Thanks Dan. Feel for ya with no sensors. The sensors are very much like your method, just with beeping though lol.

I do like the b7 lights, and the "floating led", but as I want the b7 valance and quad pipes, well, my car will just look like a b7 lol. Nothing wrong with that (from the back, not liking the front end), but don't want people thinking I'm trying to make it look like a b7. Decisions decisions.

I was following my mate in his a3 the other day and he had the " floating led" tail lights, and it does look nice. Just reversing is my main gripe with them.

Out of interest, how much were the b7 lights from euros? I saw a pair on ebay the other month that sold for £100 for the pair. Not new but no damages.

Haha, you're also doing the same Matt! :)

Yeah, I do hear you on the B7 back and B6 front however in reality its just a little facelift, but nothing major like a WTF moment. Im also thinking in the future do the B7 front conversion as I know roughly how to do it. Its just sourcing the parts which are costly and time consuming.

Yes, honestly I had the same reservations with them, but as soon as its done, you learn to love em' lol.

Ah, goodness Ive totally forgotten as I bought them last year. I could have a look in my reciepts history. Under £200 for the set. I think TPS sell them for about £109 per which is why EuroCar Parts is better.

The Kufatec adapter is off German Ebay and only about £15ish pounds. Instead of Kufatect Uk selling for £30 i believe. I sound like such a cheap skate but I do get a kick out of buying cheaper especially for bits of plastic.

Ah, great price for the pair! Next time, definitely buy them or similar price as they are a bit pricey. A good clean and they'll be ace.

9th Mod - Headlight and Tail light tinting (3rd brake light, indicators and fogs too)

Been meaning to post this but last weekend, I took my car to my favourite wrapper/tinter and got both the above tinted.
Im not sure of percentages as it was a case of taking the tint films that he had, putting them over the area and giving it the 'yay' or 'nay'

I opted for a nice subtle one up front. not dark at all and a slightly darker one at the rear. I also got the guy to cut out the section of white on the rear taillights. LOVE the look myself.

My car is now fully exterior modded out to my liking with the exception of painting the calipers, which I will get around to doing.

Next on the shopping list is a android navigation system or a flat bottom steering wheel.

Then the stage 2 engine mods will commence

Good day all :)

When I first saw the tittle I thought "No, you're taking away even more reverse light!" But yeah, that looks really good mate. Wanna see pics of front end now

Thanks a lot Matt! Yeah defo didnt want to 'black it all out'.

Sure, I'll snap some of the front end and pop it on here :)

I've often though about doing something with the windscreen surround, this is the first non-silver one I've seen and I quite like it.
The hood looks in really good nick as well, what's your secret?

PS any chance of a topless shot :friendly wink:

Thank you although I cant take complete credit for De-chroming all my surrounds. Lots of memebers have done this, especially on the B7 section. Check out 'Ajax1976' his B7 Avant is incredible.

Its qute easy for a good 'wrapper' to do. Yes..like vr6Gordy, you can also opt to have it painted.

With regards to my hood..the comment made my day as the elbow grease that was involved was something to rival a gym workout.

I had SO much green mildew when I bought it, i thought i would need a new hood and a wash did nothing to reduce it.

What I did over a couple of 'sessions' should we say..

1. Karcher Pressure washer holding the gun only about 10cm away so VERY close. Any more further away and the extremely stubborn mildew will not come off. Moving the gun up and down in small strokes as the hood is big and you will tire yourself out haha.

2. Apply 'Milton's baby sterilizing fluid' liberally over the hood using a kitchen brush. Basically you want to scrub the fluid into the hood in swirls. Dont worry the bristles on brush wont damage the hood in any way. This is very time consuming. Leave on for 20mins.

3. Power wash the fluid off. You can tell its working as the fluid that drips down is usually as green as anything!

4. Wash the car including roof with your favourite car wash product.

5. Dry off with cloth and after, put the car in sun!

Admire your new looking hood haha

I hear you VR6 Gordy but I cant stand the roundness of the front. Plus when i install it, im going to have it poking out..not like how everone tuckes it in!

That's why I want you to do it, so I can see what it looks like lol.

I think it will suit it, you can bring them forward a bit and not sit so far back.

I'm thinking if a carbon fibre one from a DTM, but not sure if will fit. Just a thought of mine

lol, im the guinea pig then.

Ive seen some B6 Saloons which look amazing with it on so hopefully i can follow suit.

Ive already had it painted sitting in my bedroom so might as well slap it on.

Not sure the DTM will fit. Having said that, anything can be made to fit in this day and age haha

I had mine sitting as far forward as poss and it looked wrong also there as common as noses everyone has one

It has been done. I remember seeing this one - http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/cupra-splitter-on-a4-cab-b7-rear-lights.193305/ - and thinking it looks OK, but must be something better. I liked the "rdx" front splitter, but still undecided. The rdx one will need paint too, so something else to save up for. Bah, my exhaust comes first!

Yes, Ive seen this one. Looks OK but its so far in. Needs more poke haha.

A previous memeber on here T.Oldaker had the RDX spliiter on his cabby.

Ones things for sure, im not a fan of the factory plastic look. Thats why i got it painted. I like shiny things :)

Stick it on first with double sided tape then have a good look before you screw it on that way you won't have to get your bumper painted

Just a little update:

Really needed to pull my finger out as I've done NO mods on my car in ages and really want to get back on track with my Cabby's progress.

I got it serviced a few months ago by an Ex-Audi Master Technician as it was time.

Mod

Thanks to the help the forum and VagCabby (Member on here) with specific instructions of how to remove the Cabby door card as its different from the B6 salooon...i managed to install more bright white LED puddle and warning lights as the old halogen yellow was boring me.

Do let me know if anyone wants to know how to do this.

The puddle light 9 times out of 10 doesnt need the door card to be removed as it has enough cable/wire to dangle out the whole where as the warning light (red) doesnt so you would almost certainly need to remove the card.

Result

Very impressed with the puddle light as the look over stock is lovely. The warning light..not so much as its practically the same. This is due to the Red tint of the plastic being very thick so it almost looks the same. This is why I havent bothered showing you lot :p

A while back 'StevieB' asked for a topless shot. Sorry its taken so long..

''Dont say the car is topless, say the t*tties are out'' :p

Notes:
1 - I promise..the light in real life DO NOT look chav blue like the pic illustrates. They are in fact 6000k which is in fact white with a tiny amount of blue.
2 - Not really satisfied with my 'stance' very soon, i'll be on 19's with 33ET and lowered:sunglasses:

I changed my oem 4300k for some 6k ones. Didn't like the 6k so got some 5k cheap bulbs. It's all about the branding and quality I think. My 5ks are good, I like em, but want some osram 5k bulbs tbh.

Anyway, these are my 5k taken in a Sainsburys car park (true!), Maybe it is their lighting?

Haha got to agree Matt as my pics were taken at Sainsburys also :tearsofjoy:

Yes, the more and more I see 5k's the more i like them.

Get matching 5k LED H11 fogs to match. They are the business :)

Thing with the fog lights, is that what you need them, in fog, they won't be as good as you need them to be. The yellow halogen light is good for the fog, so will be keeping them, if I need them. Same with high beam, when you need it, it's no good to have less light.
Just my thoughts though.

I'm always in Sainsburys. Work there at the moment driving those vans in your pic doing the home deliveries. Just passed my class 2 32 tonne trucking license though, so hopefully moving on soon!

I would have to agree..often if the LED's are some cheap clone of a decent brand, the lighting power is often not as good as OEM halogen.

However, i bought a pair of very sparkly ones with more lumens than my old halogens. Ive tested them and am very happy in low visibility scenarios.

Oh nice one. My mate is the same also working on his class 2. Yes, soon you'll be one of those MASSIVE sainsburys truck drivers that take half a minute to turn haha :p

I barely use the fogs tbh. Just with the coming home lights. Might think about some led ones, but I dunno, I like the stock yellow for some reason.

And no, I want out if Sainsburys so much. Such a bad company to work for. They owe me 6.5 hours wage, I'll be getting 10 weeks after I clocked out. They failed to pay me it twice, well, third time lucky I guess. Seriously, anyone thinking about working for Sainsburys, don't!!!

Yes, after seeing the halogen yellow contrast with the white LED's..i know what you mean.

Ah, feel for you. Many years ago I was going to 'deliver' for them. Fingers crossed, you'll get ALL what is owed to you! Otherwise, you're going home with a lorry full of fresh food :)
