A couple of months ago I retrofitted a DAB radio unit to my Avant, using the OEM aerial in the osr window and the DAB aerial amplifier.

So far I have to say I'm disappointed as the DAB reception keeps dropping out.

Does anyone know if there is a way of testing aerial strength at all?

TIA

I did that same with my Avant and my DAB reception isn't perfect, but it is better than with the stick on aerial that I had in my Passat CC.

If there is a way of checking the signal strength, I'd be interested too.

Hi you can set the dab signal strength on the main screen if you can get to the "secret menu" this has to be enabled by vag-com VCDs.

Thanks for the info.
Do you mean that you can set the MMI to display the signal strength or that you can adjust the amount of signal boosting that the amplifier gives?

On the display it shows from 1 to 7.
Give me 2 mins I will take a picture

Also some USB converters for charging your phones wipe out the dab signal too. Worth noting.

There are lots of devices that wipe out DAB signals, dash cams etc. Unfortunately there is a lot of equipment that is being sold on ebay & amazon that don't have valid UL/CE EMC testing and that equipment can have a massive impact on your DAB signal.

So, still disappointed with my DAB reception and have now bought my own VCDS cable and can keep closer eye on my car generally.

Definitely not down to the USB cigarette plugs I have as it makes no difference if they are in / on at all. They weren't bought on ebay either.

However, the following error comes up from time to time which I'm assuming must either be down to the connections (which appear ok) or maybe a kink in the cable somewhere, causing the open circuit fault:

1 Fault Found:
02877 - Digital Radio Antenna (R183)
011 - Open Circuit
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01101011
Fault Priority: 7
Fault Frequency: 1
Reset counter: 112
Mileage: 111855 km
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2016.11.28
Time: 11:42:08

Freeze Frame:
Voltage: 11.90 V

Does anyone have any idea?

Thanks in advance

Mark
