    Hi Guys,

So yesterday I made the big 450 mile round trip to Colchester to get some custom fit carbon guards made to stop the nasty stone peppering I have. Now I’ve done all the hard work, you guys can buy them to fit at home. See below first if you haven’t already, why I had these made.

    [IMG][IMG]

So the pieces were 3-ply Carbon Fibre design to fit to the contours of the car. We have utilised the original fixings wherever possible. So the rears fit to the car by using the position of the two Torx bolts in the arch liner so no additional fixings required, the stepped back arch is sorted with some nylon spacers and longer screws. The front is slightly more complicated as the fixings in the the arch are ‘fake’ fixings they told me, so I had to give permission for two small holes drilled into the front leading edge of the black guard on the plastic sill, the guard has then been fitted with two rivets but you could use screws. Then for extra security some light adhesive on the top to secure to the plastic trim in the arch. I’m pretty sure it would fit snugly to the car without this because of the curvature.

Anyway onto some photos, I’m happy with it.. it doesn’t look out of place which was my concern.

For those eagle eyed viewers yes the photos of the guards feature West London Audi, always wanted to go and somewhat in the area I decided to do it.. great place!

Anyway onto cost, this is what the company have sent to me regards to cost and what will be supplied. They can fit on site for approximately 3 hours labour at £50+VAT an hour. All I recommend if you do go on site, watch them take your wheels off or do it yourself. I’ve got chips on 5/5 of the wheel bolt cavities on both front wheels and “I’ve definitely not done that”, was the end of that. Always my luck, gutted.
They have advised because it is unlacquered I get some UV protection for the carbon, which I’m looking into.

£159 +VAT for the following kit:

    - 4x RS3 Wheel Arch Spats
    - 2x Standard Nylon Spacers
    - 2x 45 Degree Nylon Spacers
    - 4x M6 Black Counter Sunk Washers
    - 4x 50mm Gold Wood Screws
    - 4x Rivets 4mmx10mm

For those who are invested please contact the owner of Reverie on: Simon@Reverie.ltd.uk

Let me know what you think guys and if they would be of any use to you

On a side note, I think I’ve bought a diesel RS3! Incredibly I did a total of over 10 hours driving, at least 2 hours sat in London M25 and city traffic, a 45 minutes motorway closure with start stop on and I achieved a mind blowing 434 miles on the tank before I filled up with 0 miles left!! I did a mile or so on zero before I got to a fuel station. This calculated out at 36.96MPG, astonishingly good for what the car is.. that’s with the Air Con firing all day and loaded up with 2 of us. Then just to top it off I made it into the “400 Mile Club” the S3 owners were bragging about last year, in the RS3. On refill I got 405 miles range... proof for those in doubt ;-)

Yep I’m surprised by how well it did too. I had mapped out shell garages 110, 70 and 50 miles from home in prep of filling but it just kept going! It was 15 miles short of getting from my home in the valleys to London and back, I just got off of the motorway when I had to fill.

Well I was going to say you're bonkers if you can think you can get 400+ .. ... Hmmm..... Don't think I've even got into the 350 club.. So! If I buy an rs3 I can save fuel costs ;)

Car looks good though and yeah not really out of place :)

Had a trip to South Wales and back over the last few days. 200 mile round trip and only half a tank used at a 32mpg average. That was 'keeping up with the traffic, officer' so I was very impressed.

I know I was confident of 400, but to get over 430 is nuts. If you were really committed you could easily achieve 450 on a motorway run.

Yes show the other half, this is evidence. ;)

What were you down this neck of the woods for? :)

That’s really good. These cars are a master of all. My Dad has a 2.0TDI A4 Allroad (going next week in exchange for a 520d as Audi are getting disappointing), he gets 36mpg up and down the motorway and I got 37.. mad.

Um, well this company specialise in Carbon but worth and ask and would be cheaper. I’m just praying the carbon will last, it will take a beating. You can see how well it is working which is great!!

I went for carbon happily because the product doesn’t look out of place on an expensive car, a rubber flap cut down would have looked rubbish.

Thanks for the write up Matt . Against your colour does not look out of place looks a neat job. I haven’t experienced any issues , yet, but would def consider if I do. As for the MPG I’m gobsmacked..

You know what audinutta, credit given where’s credit due. You had a problem resolved it by driving to the other end of the country, got a great looking and fitting product there and also this will do doubt help out other owners. Top work mate and to top it off proved to people that these cars can do 400+ on a tank. Well done mate:thumbs up:

No problem at all, always happy to help :)

My concern was that it would look silly like the universal £10 flaps would off of eBay. I’ve tried to keep the design as flowing to the bodywork as possible, the rear shows that.

I hadn’t up until last week.. damn country lanes :( It took 3 days to do that damage.

The MPG is outstanding, it had far from ideal driving conditions but did unbelievably well. Perfect all rounder.

    Thanks mate :thumbs up:

The company were impressed with how far I travelled :lmfao:
I struggled to find somebody who had any interest or was likely to do a good job, this place seemed really interested to get a solution to my problem from the beginning. They do some awesome stuff there, this is super basic.

I’m hoping it will help out other owners too, that’s another thing I justified it with by going and getting it designed so it can be produced again and if you ask me the price really isn’t that bad for a product that works/fits. I didn’t want to buy rubbish off the internet and have to botch it together, yes this cost more but it’s carbon ;)

I always knew it had 400 in it, but 430 is unreal and honestly no doubt it would do 450 with ease. Had I not driven through central London for an hour and a half and got stuck in an hour or so of M25 traffic it would have been better and probably would have topped that 450 mile threshold. Compared to your average car it’s not mindblowing but remembering this is a 400bhp road weapon I don’t think you could ask for anymore.

Oh I get 300 quite easily, even 340 on an average week to week tank with a steady foot.

This was cruise control sat at 70mph all the way to London, then on the way back I had stints of 73/74mph on cruise but then slowed down to 65 for the last 50 miles.

I’m as surprised as everybody else.

Very impressed with the MPG you got, I am yet to get into the 300 club yet alone 400

Just out of interest, what does the SAFE mean on your dash image, just below the trip mileage ??

You can change between sport and classic, I’ve only used the classic a handful of times and like it for motorway trips!

On your VC, press the left tab button on the steering wheel where you change between computer and sports displays etc. Go to the bottom and it says layout, you can only change it while the car is still... change it however many times you want.

The only thing to not like is that there is no numerical oil temp, only on a scale when you change it to the small dials with the view button.

Yeah comfort, not sure if it makes a difference on the motorway in cruise does it?

70mph all the way except for traffic so 223 miles on the way there. On the way back on the motorway I was between 70 and 73, slowed down to 65 for the last 50 miles. Otherwise the usual M25 standstill.

My fuel is all logged in an app, in 6200 miles I’ve spent £1561 on fuel :O

Yes definitely give it a go ;) The instantaneous slider gauge on the VC shows it to average between 40 and 45mpg at those speeds. I never ever believed in instantaneous gauges they move around too much but on the VC it’s a bar and much easier to follow.

I won’t do over 75 on the motorway, feel like I’m going to get caught lmao! When I’m in a rush, I set it to 73 and when I’m ridiculously late and know the roads I may do 75. Never have I sat on the motorway at 80mph before :O

My insurance is going up as it is by the looks!!

Trick is to get this before you ruin the paint ;) I wish I had them before.

Tbh, you will probably never see it all depends on how the car is used, caravan holidays are a big no as it turns out :(

Onto the very expensive thing now of having all 4 doors, both sills and back bumper corrected.. FML!

If I’m honest I’m worried this carbon won’t last, it’s sturdy but I just know my luck and can see it going down the drain. If it does I have the design and I may just get some plastic I won’t continue paying £190 a set.

6672 miles costing £1311 on the S3 since I got it in October, but that's also cheap Asda fuel mostly as only recently starting putting in premium stuff. I dont know if its a good or bad thing to log this stuff and know how much is being spent haha.

Hahaha, on the M4 at times I feel slow when in the far right lane going at 75, people speeding past at whatever speed... maybe this is the reason there is a crash every day :) .. used to work with someone who would drive his Mondeo estate and cruise as fast as he could really, 120 ... sure.... never been caught, madness. At those kind of speeds you are saving time at least, when going even 80, unless you are doing one hell of a long journey... the time is negligible

I am just really surprised at your self control. Without stating what speeds I reach on the various m/ways I want to enjoy the open road in a manner suited to the car. What is the point in having the thing if you don't open it up?

Cheaper fuel will aid that for sure so not that much difference between. I have always put V Power in, usually pay around 130.0 a litre.

Yep loads of people speed but it would be my luck if I did it once, it would be the one day somebody got caught haha! It’s not worth it for me, Insurance is bad enough as it is.

I’ve got a mate who had a Seat Ibiza who did the same, up and down the motorway every day at 100+mph guaranteed, never got caught.

It did take some doing, I usually end up giving it a boot at some point in any drive. I went through 2 tunnels on the M25 and I was about to drop the windows but when I realised I was in comfort I resisted and left it. Then with 10 miles range I didn’t floor it off of the Severn bridge tolls just crawled off, now that has never happened before for me :lmfao:

But I will say once it had its fresh tank of V Power in, I gave it a fair boot for the last 15 miles home. Driving slow always makes your car feel faster ;)

It is just me? or am I confused ........
After reading your posts which seem to focus on heavily on fuel consumption and your restraint on driving even slightly over the speed limits (which about 90% of UK drivers do on a daily basis, even if it's just by a few mph), I am struggling to understand why you even purchased a 4oops car in the first place as it's obviously way beyond your intended use of a vehicle.
Surely you would be better off with a diesel or one of those fancy hybrids?

I was on a 450 mile motorway trip, the goal wasn’t speed it was efficiency.. time and fuel. My car very rarely returns 20mpg with my normal driving.
