Cruise control installation guide

Great write up B7Gav ! Thanks for taking the trouble to do this

Fitted mine this afternoon, having had the cruise switch for a couple of weeks, just waiting for a couple of free hours to complete the job.
All went fine, the only thing i did diffently was; I just disconnected the small 'mfsw buttons / airbag' harness from the connector and left the airbag connected to that harness. To remove the steering wheel, had it turned 180 degrees (ie upside down), the airbag pod itself happily sat into the steering wheel, thus allowing to be removed as one.

I didnt order the lower cowl, just used a dremel to cut the cowl to the templated marks on the inside. Fitted a treat !

Just need to get the coding done next week when its over at the independant specialist...... I'll be keeping the ol' fingers crossed that it all works fine !

Thanks again B7Gav :thumbs up:

Great guide sounds simple enough to do. All i need now it to get myself the kit, wheres the cheapest/best place to get one?

I can only find ones around £105+ or is that the going rate now? and that's good to know cheers :)

For £40 its a no brainer aha, £105 kinda put me off, ill have a search now anyways

its an 05 A3 3.2 sportback, correct me if im wrong but I was told that all the 3.2s had cruise control just needed activating and stalk fitting. without trying to sound too stupid what is 'full dis' haha

yeah I have that...try to stay away as i don't like being reminded of my catastrophically poor mpg ;)

do i not need the one which is same as used in this guide? as that one you linked replaces the standard indicator stalk doesnt it

so much cheaper than what i was finding haha! it looks like the right part but my model isn't mentioned in the list of cars it fits, just A4 A6 A8 and Q7.

yeah having a trawl through Google right now, thanks for help :)

Trying to make sure I have to right tools..

What size are the Torx screws?
And where could I get the long ones for cowling?

Thanks for the install guide op. I Just got myself a cruise stock and some screws from the evilbay for less than £20, can't really argue with that, I'll most likely hold off with the fitting until I can get hold of a lower cowling as I'm not a fan of cutting original parts

Thanks for this!
Had a free sunday, and in between football games had a crack..

went for the hack job on the cowling.. Now i know i'll be getting a proper one.. haha just for aesthetics

Now just waiting to get it coded in and see if it works.

Coded in.
Works perfectly!
Really missed the Cruis Control! Love it!

Also found out my car potentially is mapped?

Just want to check as did this with a friend the other weekend.
How did you just clip in the cruise?

After removing the slip ring and the 4 long screws holding the stalks in we could not just clip in the cruise. In the end we ended up manoeuvring it place by taking part of the indicator stalk apart so that the section that sticks out on the rear right of the cc stalk could fit in behind the indicator stalk.

Also I have the latest version of vcds and the shortcoding was not available so had to do the long coding which was even easier. If anyone is interested in the long coding I'll post a pic later.

anyone know the exact size of the bolts that hold the cruise control stalk on? mines come without any?? ta!

No, but my records from when I did this say the part no. is: N 909 068 02
You can easily check with Audi and they should only cost you a few pence...

is anyone in the newcastle area with the program that could program this for me in? cheers

If anyone's looking for a cruise kit, I've got one from Crewe Audi which is brand new and unfitted as I never got round to fitting it and the car's going.
I could do it for £60 posted if anyone's interested?

I'd take that off your hands fella I'm still after one.

You should update your vcds to latest version 11.
Hi I'm interested in aftermarket cruise for a 59 a4 avant, be great if you could let me know where I can source and or maybe supply and fit yourself, if you can let me know with cost be great too.....

Cheers......

I have only just signed up to the Forum, so please let me know if i'm doing the wrong thing.
I have an Audi TT Quattro MY 2000 (8N).
I bought a cruise control kit on ebay from an English supplier which was described as suiting my car.
The instruction enclosed with it described fitment for a VW Golf Mk 4,with several engine codes detailed. However, my engine code (BAM) is not mentioned and the supplier says he cannot help.
The thing seems to be whether or not I will need the supplied ECU Loom.I don't really want to dismantle anything then find I can't proceed.Any advice would be most appreciated, as there is not a lot of that here in Australia (that's the colonies for you!)
Hello to you all, you sound like a great bunch.
Garth West
PS: The part Nos Supplied were 1JO 953 513 01C (Steering column stalk)
1JO 971 425 A (2 wiring looms)

If you post this in the TT forum you may get a better response.

Is the procedure the same for all years and specs of b7 avant or can only certain ones be done?

Finally installed it tonight!
After 2 weeks of looking for parts and all, it went in smoothly :D

Only problem is: Activated it with VCDS using the steps above and it doesn't engage :(

Had a look in the measuring block and it was ON.

Anyone has any idea as to why it's not engaging?
Car's a 57 A4 B7 2.0 TDI 170bhp

Thanks to all taking their time to reply :)

Same happened with mine and turns out I had a faulty clutch switch.

Plug it back into vag com and check if the clutch switch is working
