Just topped oil up on my 2002 s3 as it was half way down dipstick, when i removed the oil filler cap there was creamy gunk on it and around the inside of the neck at the top. I alwasys thought this ment the head gasket was gone, i checked coolant level and that is fine and the coolant is perfectly clean, and there is no creamy gunk on the dipstick. I spoke to a mate who is a mechanic, he has not looked at the car yet but from what i told him on the phone says it is most likly just condensation due to the cold weather. Anyone else esperienced this or has a thought on what might be the cause.

I think you mechanic mate is right!

Quite a common problem when the weather is cold, particularly if you only do short journeys.

Yea i not been using it much latley just the 6 miles to work and back, hes not normally wrong. sounds like a good excuse to take it out for a long blast then.

As above

Take the wife (or yer mum :aggressive: ) for a long, hard run ......

nice to see an honest mechanic too..

most probably condensation as already stated. Warm the engine, wipe off the creamy junk and go for a long drive and see if it happens again.

is the running temperature normal?

did you check coolant level?

Used to get that problem with the old escort CHV (or was it OHV) engine.

Seem to remember being told not to worry about it!?

I ended up with white gunk in my trousers after driving my S3 home from buying it... its natural mate dont sweat it!

not wanting to upstage ya matey but my leather was black when i set off from the dealer, its cream now:respekt:

Anyway we had best refrain... This is a serious forums for people who drive only the very best German cars (then set about changing everything on them!) so I think I should tone down the off topic penis and ejaculating matter

i have wiped it off now, so i will take it for a long blast at weekend see wot its like, cheers for all the help.

went to check my oil level this morn an had some gunk on the cap too. Thoughts of headgaskets and big bills went through my mind but after reading this im slightly less scared!

Been freezing lately an the car hasnt had a good blast for ages, phew!
