Hello, I have a steering wheel creak coming from the wheel /collum area. Anyone know what is causing this? Noise is when the wheel returns to the centre. Please see the video.

Had this on my old A5,sounds like the steering column but turned out it was a worn steering box .
My car was a 2007 model

Does it sound louder inside or outside the car?

I haven't heard it from outside the car but I'm sure it's coming from the steering collum assembly area.
I had a completely different car and mine was creaking. That sounded like it was coming from the steering column.
Turned out mine was the hub assembly.

It's already been into audi once, I'm dreading how many times it'll go until it's diagnosed and fixed. They cleaned my haldex filter and thought they fixed it

Good luck getting it diagnosed by Audi, I’ve had a cracking noise from my steering column area for over a year and Audi always say they can’t hear it even though I’ve got it on video from my dash cam. I went out for a drive with a “specialist “ and was told the noise was to do with the indicators and was a “feature” on the A3 Saloon. I nearly stopped the car and told him to get out.

Audi A3 sedan 1.6tdi 2017 facelift (81kW) Sport

Hello friends, im new here so dont mind correcting me if im wrong.

I have simmilar problem with steering wheel but mine is not producing sound only when turning but also when driving forward. I found out that sound is coming from underneath the horn/airbag, inside the steering wheel and it sounds like shortage(electrical wiring) when driving under 2000rpm in every gear or even when parked with under 900rpm . Only one position i made it to stop is when turning the wheel 90° (both sides) and pressing the plastic behind the horn/airbag or pushing the horn down left/right.

Here is you

Can someone help me?

Sounds like the steering wheel slip ring, I had this issue on an A6 and three new clock springs later no resolution, sold the car - solved.

I've heard of people on this forums lubing the clock spring but I think this is inadvisable as it contains the airbag wiring (amongst others).

Does the intensity of the clicking worsen with temp fluctuations?

I've had it in with audi a few times and they've replaced the clock spring assembly. It is doesn't creak anymore but still makes a noise. Seems to do it less when I've left the car a day or two but it's no longer super annoying like the it was. Just going to leave it for now and hope it doesn't get any worse. I didn't notice a relationship between the temp and creak
