Had a bump in the ice last night, skidded off the road and had to be recovered home, all sorted apart from an airbag light. When cleared comes straight back. Does the sensor need replacing or can it be reset?
B103215 - Pedestrian Protection Crash Sensor (driver side) Open circuit/short circuit to B+. Mechanically only bent the track rod and bumper damage.

Following the incident it would seem that you have one of the following issues:
  • Damaged / faulty wiring from your Airbag Control Module to your Drivers Side Pedestrian Protection Crash Sensor
  • A damaged / faulty Drivers Side Pedestrian Protection Crash Sensor
  • Possibly both
Fault will need tracking down and the needed parts replacing.

Hey Alex, I'm also getting foglight bulb fault as I can't put a bulb in. Is there a way to say they're not installed? To stop the error light?

Check the wiring behind the bumper, really easy to see, you need to take the bumper off though. There’s 2 sensors that are located on each side of the bumper, check the wiring for the drivers one, wiring runs just under where the horn is mounted from memory.

Change the following to "not active"
  • 09 - Cent Elect > Adaptations
  • Left Fog = Leuchte12NL LB45 Lichtfunktion A 12 > Nebellicht links
  • Right Fog = Leuchte13NL RB5 Lichtfunktion A 12 > Nebellicht rechts

Is it possible to set that particular sensor as uninstalled? It's constantly on my dash and won't clear till I've got a new sensor.

Only via the official VW Group tool, and even then it will be very difficult to do. Whack a resistor in there to make the car think the sensor is in place, but only as long as this is a temp measure. I see things like this all the time with crash damaged vehicles which have been purchased from auctions lol.

It's only a temp thing till I can afford to order a new sensor. What sort of resistor? Do you know?

No idea to be honest. I sense some google-fu in your near future :)

What sensor is giving you the issue?

Assuming that you have tested the wiring you will need to either replace the airbag controller or the PPCS, and replace with the exact same part number and revision. You will then need to have this coded in via ODIS software version management. Seen loads of these and they NEED to be 100% virgin components.

So I can't just order a new sensor? And replace it? I think it just broke the sensor off from the front end damage as it's connected on the bumper. So I assumed replacement would sort the issue?

It will need coding in, and can only be done via ODIS online software version management. Might also be component protection involved but cannot remember 100%.

Could you give me a quote for the works? Replacement and ODIS coding? Just so I know what I'm looking at?

I would need to look in to the physical side of things and costs of parts but for an ODIS session you would be looking at £65.00 which would include any CP and SVM etc needed. Can you PM me your VIN or Reg number and I will get a quote for the parts.

You should possiby delete the post containing your vin in the interests of sucurity and pm it as requested..

Made a note of your VIN. Will send off a parts request and let you know. Might want to edit out the last 6 digits of your VIN there :)
Hi Mate, did you manage to sort me a quote for these works?

Hi Alex,

No probs, sorted it now. Just replaced the sensor and it let me clear the fault

Where was this sensor? I have a 2018 Audi S3 that’s been repaired after a front end bump.

One of the airbag fault codes is...

Crash sensor 2 for pedestrian protection drivers side, open circuit/short circuit to Earth.

So I need to replace a sensor I think.

Did you get this sorted? If so what sensor part code was it?
