Hi All,

I am new to this group as just purchased a Audi A3 3.2 S-Line Auto Quattro but I am getting a engine management error.

It was first an issue with the Camshaft position sensor and I replaced that last week but then the error changed to an issue with the Crankshaft position sensor. Its possible it was the Crankshaft position sensor all the time I went on what the garage told me i.e. P1347 camshaft position sensor.

I now have my own scanner.

Scan code P0018 - Crankshaft position - Camshaft position correlation - Bank 2 Sensor A.

Can anyone advise what that would be located? I am assuming on the lower side of the engine?

The car starts first time and drives with no lag and no knocking etc so I assume the chains are ok.

Any help would be great.

Thanks for reply, but I always thought that with stretched timing chains that you got other associated issues i.e. trouble starting, engine noise, poor performance etc. Would it not be better change the crankshaft sensor first before paying to get the chains done.

I assume from an independent (dorset based) that I would be looking at around 1.8K?

I guess. But given its corralation error that means the crank and cam is out of time. Only thing joining them is chains. I'd expect an implausible signal code and poor starting when hot from bad crank sensor. It is however worth a bash for the cost

Once again thanks for the quick reply.

That makes sense as since we have owned the car its been driven to work and left for 8 hours then driven home. The only time the car has been driven and left for only an hour it had an issue starting.

Here is hoping its the sensor.

Is the crank sensor at the bottom of the engine near the oil filter? I know on some cars you can get to it by removing the wheel and then a cover behind that. Is that the same on the Audi A3?

Hi. I have the same thing on my 3.2 . Let me know if changing the crank sensor cures it. Cheers and good luck

Small chance that it's the cam sensor. We had his issue on our R32 and I had to change the timing chain as it had stretched, took me 2 days on the driveway to do the job, it's a massive job to complete and specialists charge £1000+ just for the labour, most people change the clutch and DMF at the same time so the bill usually ends up being near £2k.

Here is a guide I created in the r32 forum when I did mine.
