Hi help needed
I have an Audi A4 avant 2.0tdi 07 plate estate think it is a b7. Over the last 6 month we have had starting problems first we were told it was the cam sensor this was done and the car worked for a couple of weeks that started at its old tricks. Next we're told it was the fuel pump this was fixed again it worked for a couple of weeks. Now it won't start at all. Everytime it cranks but will not start
We have now been told it could be the ecu.
I have seen posts about it possibly being a relay 614. How likely is this? Is this expensive and worth a try. Also how do I find out a part number for it?
Any help would be greatly appriciated
Sarah

I wouldn't spend any more money on parts until it has been properly plugged into Audi (VAG group) diagnostic software so that any engine management fault can be pinpointed. The fact that two items have been replaced in the past (without any long term improvement) suggests that this has not yet been done and that your mechanic has been guessing at the problem.

Hi Sarah and welcome to the forum and nice to see you got the better shaped one also....I would have a look on the VCDS Map to see who is nearby where you live and get them to give your car a scan, much cheaper than the dealership as normally it's just beer tokens CLICK HERE

The vcds map isn't showing up do I need to do the application for this?
Also it has been plugged in to a diagnostic comp. I don't know if this is different to a specific Audi one?

Hi Sarah, if you mention your location (County/nearest town - doesn't have to be too specific) any members can look on the VCDS map for you or offer their own services.

If you had the diagnosis at an Audi dealer, then it's unlikely that VCDS will reveal anything different. On the other hand if it was a small non-specialist garage, then VCDS is a good option at this stage.

There's an earth wire runs from the ECU box to a bolt on the bulkhead somewhere around the battery area, check this connection, if it's bad it won't start & even VCDS won't pick it up.

I had this exact same problem on my A3.
At first i thought it was the immobiliser, it went into main dealer and they said it was crank sensor. I replaced the crank sensor and problem still persisted.
Went back into Audi main dealer and after 8 hours work they came back with sensor must have been faulty.
I replaced the crank sensor again, problem still persisted and car has been off the road since.

Did you resolve the problem Sarah?

Welcome to Audi-sport.net Sarah. What is your location?

Sarah,

What engine code do you have.

Has any work been done on the car recently.

To check:

Timing. If timing is out then the engine will not start.

Injector. On some engines injector failure or injector harness failure will cause a non start.

Key. If you have a spare key try that. If there's a chance it could have been damaged, water, strong magnets, then that could effect get key coding.

Good luck!

Key faults can be seen by the immobiliser kicking in. The car will start and then cut out if faulty.

Good to know, last time it happened to me was a few cars ago!
