    Hi

Been looking into upgrading my turbo CR-150bhp Stronic to the GTD 184bhp mk7 turbo for a while. Finally got my mechanic to do it.

But.. i keep getting over boost conditions now when i press it in high gears or boost on a dual carridge way. Especially on motorway seems to limp mode in after 100mph. I have got it mapped a few times and also remove the map i get the same issues.

I have checked the turbo, VNT everything is running and moving fine.

Has anybody done this upgrade or had the issue's that can guide me.

    Thank you in advance

I thought the 150 and the 184 had the same turbo. Pretty sure i read that somewhere.

Think you mean test track and not motorway over 70mph

The GTD turbo is slightly bigger.

If they are set the same then I believe no but have both been set up correctly? There is a procedure for doing and confirming this with software.

VCDS and alike can monitor the measuring block needed so you can set correctly.

Turbos need setting up with the correct machine, ideally need to send to someone like turbo dynamics to calibrate correctly.

Have you mapped it for the new turbo as yet?

Could be a combination of issues tbh, map not right, turbo setup not correct, ideally a new turbo or exchange from a reputable supplier is best, so at least you're starting on the right foot.

    Who mapped it?

I recall being supplied a new hybrid turbo & we couldn't for the life of us work out why it was overboosting, turns out the socalled reputable company had supplied the wrong turbo or told us what spec it was supposed to be, so we were mapping based on this, suffice to say, we got a turbo from turbo dynamics, who I should of stuck with in the beginning & it worked 1st time with the mapping, never bought a turbo from anyone else since.

The idiot salesman, who apparently was canned, was selling & advising wrongly not only to us.

YOU guys have saved me a lot of time and money mate Thank you!!!! you have explained it clearly to me i have googled and asked all mechanics and of course they want me to spend more money.

i got it mapped from a local Remapper he did say it was hard because of the conversion but didn't refuse took my money and mapped it and decided to ignore me after i chased that it didn't work.

i have just enquired to turbo dynamics. i am going stick with turbo dynamics.

there a lot of hybrid turbo out there wanted to sell it but give no guarantee and i know they will blame it on the Remap. im getting alot of them idiot salesmen trying to sell me a turbo lol

Vacuum turbos generally are preset & actuators rods are threadlocked once set, so generally no calibration needed when replacing a broken one, electronic also are generally preset, albeit maybe the controlling actuator motor min, max points are maybe needed learning on a basic setting, but again generally I've not known of any specific setting up, but hey everydays a school day.

Local remapper, is he a file jockey or actually builds the map, as there's not many out there that actually know wtf a map or file does or can alter to suit the car, capitalism & all lol, given your comments I'm leaning towards the map being off & ideally take the car to an actual professional remapper who fan actually create, build, adjust a map to suit your setup.

Turbo dynamics are a very good company by my experience, I dont foresee you having any issues with them.

So for clarity, was the car ever tested with your original audi 150 tuning & bigger turbo or was it mapped when turbo was fitted?

Do your research thoroughly as it can go on & on with no end in sight & empty pockets.

You need VCDS and check requested boost vs actual boost, theres also a load cycle which will tell you if the actuator is set up correctly.

basically you need to go somewhere where they know what they are doing. A custom mapper is what you need.

i would recommend ADS in Preston or if you contact Oscarli they could hopefully recommend someone.

The local Remapper makes his own files but god knows everyone says that nowadays don't they

i had my car mapped with the 150 and it was fine boosted and driven normally. then i got the DPF and EGR deleted and put GTD turbo while the engine was out, and then got it mapped again and get over boose condition since.

i need to find somebody who have done this before with the exact same upgrades as me. for now old one is going back in.

If you refit your old, of course it'll need stock map or one suitable for your original turbo or you'll get issues again.

Irony in the name, this is hypothetical, but if it was a capable tuner with dyno, if they know how to use a dyno & put together maps with these tools, then you shouldn't have left there with overboosting.

On my check I can't even find them on searching, but it was just a quick googling, but 9 out of 10, if you cant find on search they're not well known & thus maybe just a file jockey.

Again this is hypothetical, however, you do have an issue they would of either noticed on real toad tests or dealt with after sales professionally.

@ME CODING if you are in Manchester you should take it to Rick at Unicorn Motor developments in Stockport. One of he best tuners in the country for VAG stuff. And he does genuinely write and develop his own maps. He mapped my hybrid turbo B8 3.0 TDI to 380 odd bhp several years ago.
