Question 1! i want bigger brakes on my A4 1.8 TQS what the best way to go without changing to much, im thinking just bigger disc and betta pads?

Question 2! ive got a set of the 17" TQS alloys in my garage and was wondering what to sell them for, they not in the best nick to be honest just wonder what they worth?

Cheers gareth

1: Some carriers from a TT will allow you to use 312mm disks, then you can fit some B6 A4 312mm disks, and some nice pads and your all set.

2: I'll give you 20 quid? :D

Aragorn, I've a question about the advice on the brake upgrade, coz I think I might have missed something out...

So you can use the TT carriers, B6 discs and the same B5 pads in the same B5 calipers? If that's the case, what's the point in upgrading to larger discs if you're still using the same pads/calipers?

Do you use the TT calipers too? Is that what I missed out on?

Gforce... I'll give you £25.

Well the point is the larger disk means that for the same clamping force applied by the caliper, you generate more torque...
Also the larger disk will absorb more heat, and has a larger surface area to dissipate it.

TT calipers are probably the same as the A4 ones anyway, just means you dont have to touch the hydraulics by keeping the original caliper.

£30?

so i need tt carriers and what model b6 are the discs off lol keep going on the price for the wheels lol

Aaaah, I see now. Quite an easy & cheap upgrade then.

£35...?

not that easy, you have to find some carriers for reasonable money first
i gave up after 2 years and went for the s4 brakes

£40

Need to get yourself on the TT forum... and there's one being broken on Edition38 at the moment too.

£42.50

S3's work too afaik.

The biggest issue is that all the vag breakers want to sell the complete calipers, carriers, disks and pads as an upgrade for a golf or whatever, and wont break the carriers seperately.

You need to find someone breaking a TT that isnt "into" them and doesnt know that you can sell the whole lot as an "upgrade kit"

I paid £50 for mine plus post from a random chap on ebay.

£45?

That one on BIN for 39.99 isnt actually 312mm carriers, they're off some random old audi 100.

The 312mm anniversary carriers for 99new arent too bad, £180 for a set of TT calipers however seems a bit excessive to me.

auction not buy it now?, id been in touch with him a while ago but at the time he couldnt do carriers on there own

I used A6 discs.
Bought me carriers from VAGParts.......think I paid about 180 for a pair, new.
Not sure have much better they are !
There was a thread on SRS about using VAGCOM to change a brake setting value -- meant for the S4/RS4 guys upgrading to RS4 B7 brakes -- that enabled the ABS module to change the speed - or something - that the front/rear valves worked ??????
Cannot find it at the moment, but it made sense when I read it.
