I have a 2017 A3 Sportsback with a 1.4COD engine the user manual for which say for coolant top up use either:
G13 spec TL774J
or
G12++ spec TL774G
and it also states that it is possible to mix them.
Looking online I see that there is a VAG G12 Evo coolant that it says replaces G13 (the EVO it is assumed means that the coolant is environmentally friendly).
In https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10176873-0001.pdf it states
G13 was introduced in MY 2008 as initial fill and service coolant.
G12EVO was introduced in MY19 as initial fill and service coolant.
In https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2020/MC-10176873-0001.pdf there is also a table of what coolants can be mixed with other coolants.
So it seems to answer the question that I was originally going to ask about what coolant I should top up my vehicle with, the answer being that G12EVO is the default coolant to use to top up the coolant on a vehicle that was initially filled with G13 (i.e. MY 2008 onwards).
