So, my girlfriends brother also drives around in a A3. He recently changed the standard headunit to an Alpine so he can play mp3's.
The only problem is that only his front speakers work, because they are wired directly to the speaker exits of the new HU. Now, for the back there seems to be a sub etc. which is connected to a digital amplifier or something???
How do we connect these to the HU so we get sound out of them???

I fitted my Alpine 9833 unit last week, there is an adaptor by Autoleads for the rear speakers which connects via the phonos.

There are two versions, low and high voltage output. Sorry I don't have the part no to hand.

I used the low voltage version, with the sounds slightly biased towards the rear speakers.

If you want to play MP3s then Maybe a IPOD upgrade ?

Far neater option than to pull out the synphony system thats very good in the first place /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

A Ipod will plug into the Autochanger port on the Synophony and its a neat job done /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Don't worry about my car, I've got the following :

Alpine HU 9833r + Ipod 20G
Audison LRx 4.300
Audison LRx 1.400
DLS Compo's up front and rear
Rockford Fosgate HX2 10" sub in the back.

Plays Superb by the way...

You can take a look at my space, just press foto's ( means pics in Dutch )
