Hi All,

I'm trying to source a replacement passenger side headlight for my A3. I've found one on eBay but when I use the compatability checker it only gives me 2 chassis types for my make/mode/engine/variant/type etc:

8V1, 8VK
8VA, 8VF

According to my VIN my chassis is 8VK which doesn't appear to fit into either category?

Thanks in advance,

James

i believe the 8v1 and 8vk are both the 3dr
8va and 8vf are both sports back (5dr).

the difference is in the year of manufacture. An 8vk is a facelift, maybe MY2020 or later, while an 8v1 is a pre facelift.
it that’s correct, the headlights aren’t interchangeable

Sorry I must have been half asleep when I wrote that message! What I was meant to say is that my chassis number is 8V4 which doesn't fit in either category.

8V1 - Hatchback (3-door) MY2013>2016, mk3 pre facelift
8VK - Hatchback (3-door) MY2017>2020, mk3 facelift
8VA - Sportback (5-door) MY2013>2016, mk3 pre facelift
8VF - Sportback (5-door) MY2017>2020, mk3 facelift
8VS - Limousine MY2013>2016, mk3 pre facelift
8VM - Limousine MY2017>2020, mk3 facelift
8V7 - Cabriolet MY2013>2016, mk3 pre facelift
8VE - Cabriolet MY2017>2020, mk3 facelift

Your reading your VIN only but you need to check your build sticker that'll be on the inside cover of your service book and behind the rear left boot trim cover. You'll see it listed below your VIN to the left.

Similar to this where it reads 1K1 yours will be 8V1 if you own a pre facelift hatchback or 8VK if you own a facelift hatchback.

Compatibility checker on eBay is mostly useless imho.

Always go by your part number & dont forget to include any letters on the end of existing part, you may find an earlier version or superseded part, subject to checking etka or online parts system like parts24 or the like.

Whats your existing part number, show us pic of the label.

Thanks for the information, I wasn't given a service book from my Audi dealer when I purchased the vehicle. Probably a stupid question but could ou clarify which trim cover it is and how I remove it please? I had a look earlier but wasn't entirrely sure.

Thanks,

James

Would I need to remove the headlight to get to the part number?

It should be printed on a label on the inside grill side, so if its not readily seen, then yes best to pop out, but a torch should suffice.

Regarding the boot trim. Open boot & look down & left. There is a storage bin/ cover which can be removed to access the rear outer tail light. Remove this with firm pulling & your build sticker should be located stuck to the chassis behind this panel.

Thanks for this, I've just found the service book and it appears it's an 8VA so that answers that question finally!

I managed to take a photo but the sticker appaers to be partially obscured by the water reservoir for the wipers. Does this help at all?

Love that list! Super handy although…can I politely throw a small spanner in the works?

Any idea why my facelift S3 hatchback (3 door) VIN starts: 8VX ?

It’s definitely not an import but it does have exclusive paint. I’ll go and check my service book and see what other info I can glean.
