Hi all,

Second post this morning,

Since the cold mornings have started, i have noticed when starting my car, C6 3.0 tdi Le mans, that for around 3 seconds, the engine sounds really rough as though its not firing on all cylinders.

The engine turns over fine so i dont think its a battery/alternator issue, and after the initial rough sound, it runs fine.

I know i have 3 glow plugs out from a previous Diagnostic scan, 1,2 and 4 if my memory is correct. Could this be the cause of this?

Im looking to get glow plugs changed shortly anyway but wanted to check with you guys to see if there could be anything else worth checking.

BUMP

Still having the same issues guys if anyone can shed any light on this?

It might be worth adding as well that i have been using shell v power or similar brands since the original post, as well as millers injector cleaner in every full tank.

I havent had the glow plugs changed yet as ive been extremely busy plus being told mixed messages off different garages/mechanics.

Really hope someone has some advice to what this issue could be.

Im thinking along the lines of a clogged egr maybe? Ive seen some horrible photos of other people's cars egr on here.

Thanks,

Andy.

I would start with cheap solution and go for the glowplugs, I would also replace all of them as if 3 failed then the other will not be far off. I got beru from eurocarparts, avoid Audi as the cost is £££

Cheers b5nut, do you reckon its a diy job or worth getting it done by a garage? Bearing in mind im not immensely talented with a spanner lol.

I would get a local garage (VAG/Audi specialist) to do the job, you don't want to snap a glowplug off. They should not charge you more than an hours labour.

Thanks mate.

If that doesnt solve the issue do you have any idea of what to rule out next?

clear the fault codes and see which ones return, that may also point you to the fault.

Use to get a glow plug fault on my 2006 3.0 TDI under heavy acceleration only. Bought a set of 6 NKG glow plugs on ebay for under £65 and got my local garage to fit them. Took about an 40 minutes to do. It might also be worthwhile getting your engine Terracleaned for about £120. Made a big difference to the power, responsiveness and smoothness in the engine. The Terraclean will clean your entire fuel and combustion system including the injectors, sensors, cat and everything else. Got it done myself about 3 months ago and haven't looked back.

Any news on this mine does the same thing?

Apologies for late reply. it kind of slipped my mind lol.

I eventually got the glow plugs changed, all 6 brand new and that has solved the issue.

I also got a terraclean done of the fuel system as well as the egr. If im completely honest, didnt notice anything different apart from i was £300 lighter!

Hope this helps.
