code poping up on the odometer

there is a code that is poping up on the odometer its "ln l" its coming up right umnder the millage of the car when i start it up it flashes for a while.
does any one know wat the code means?

Cars without DIS will show In 1 or In 2. In 1 = Inspection 1. Your car is due for a service.

DIS is dat thing called a 'Drivers Information System' and in this case DIS shows you dat a service 1 is needed.

Hi,

Below is copy of the instructions on how to reset the inspection service light from a post in the Diesel section. It might be worth a try!

Press and hold the right button. (odometer reset)

now switch on the ignition
(oil lamp will not flash, but on at all times)

press the right button again
(insp is now displayed)

pull left button. (clock set)
(------ are now displayed)

Pull left button again

You might have to try this a few times to reset everything (oil & in1).

This works on my A4 tdi (110bhp) but should work on all.

Original poster's car is fairly early, so manual re-set MAY not work.

Manual re-set became European legislation from about '98 - i.e ALL cars manufactured after this date had to allow the owners to re-set the service interval without special equipment, in this case, diagnostic equipment.

I assume your service book should advise what is required.
