I think the clutch might be on the way out but I'm not sure. I'll try and explain. 1.9tdi 130 fwd awx engine.

Where I park at home it's on a slight dip so when I reverse out in the morning and back up the inclined road a short way it feels like the clutch is juddering. If I'm driving off in first sometimes it judders especially when I'm on my way home, if you know what I mean.

But with the handbrake hard on it will not slip if I try to drive, it will drag the back wheels.

Opinions would be very appreciated guys.

    Thanks, Mark.

Could possibly be that the Dual Mass Flywheel is on it's way out......mine went before the clutch actually started slipping... mine juddered a little but what i noticed most was a rattling sound on tickover that went away as you slowly let the clutch up

could just be a warped clutch plate.

Is it normal to change both the clutch and the flywheel or can you just change the clutch?

You can change just the clutch as long as the DMF is ok. You won't really know until the old clutch is out what the DMF is like unless it's failed already.

I think mine does this. Sometimes it judders when I come to a stop. Not sure if it slips but it doesn't feel 100% biting.

Most people change both clutch and duel mass together, like replacing the water pump and tensioners with a cam belt, you might as well while everything is apart. Obviously the DMF is very expensive, i only replaced the clutch on mine (cheap skate LOL) and it's been fine. My dual mass looked ok and wasn't causing any vibration so i took a chance.
TBH with yours juddering i wouldn't like to risk stripping it all down, just replacing the the clutch, putting it back together and the judder is still there.

I get a judder sometimes on damp mornings but once the moisture has burnt off it tends to go, would a new clutch and dmf fix this?

Mine has been like this for a couple of months, if I leave the car idling it chatters on and off. I can feel the chatter through the clutch during a slow engagement of it, when manovering etc.

My clutch used to slip when the old dying turbo was overboosting low down in the revs (remaped engine though).

Garage I had its MOT done at also mentioned without prompting from me that the DMF sounded like it was begining to fail.

Planning to replace clutch, springplate, release/thrust bearing and DMF in a few weeks. Important to replace the flywheel bolts apparently and the ones holding the springplate on to the engine. Will be doing it at the same time as cambelt, waterpump, aux belt tensioners all round, filters for everything, oil, coolant etc, all in one hit with the front end apart and engine out.

A few months back I was on my way home driving in heavy duty rain, if I booted it the clutch would shudder.
