So I went to the shop I never ever buy from (hellfrauds) but wanted some good wash,polish,wax products and didn't want to wait. Going to have a go at detailing my car. Reading about claying so went with maguiars clay kit and the polish and wax also demon foam to start the process.
Any tips on the process and cloths to use

Yes, take the Halfords wash mitt back and swap it for the Meguiars one.

With respect I have to disagree about the mitt. I have 3 noodle mitts, all inexpensive ones. I've never had any problems. One major advantage they have is they are machine washable whereas the lambswool ones are hand wash. This means I wash mine after every use and they are always totally clean. I don't know about you but my washing machine is better at washing things than me, I get bored too quickly and rush to finish! I'm not saying the Meguiars mitt isn't good, just that the Halfords one isn't evil! What's key in all this is technique, care and attention. Indeed I believe @the_cueball who is a detailing legend (to me anyway) has stated he can wash a car with 1 bucket and no grit guard perfectly well. It's all in the technique.

Detailing can have a bit of snobbery attached to it which is a real shame. There are very few bad products, most get the job done. It's just some seem to associate cost with results. That's not the case. Good wash routine is the foundation of success. Also detailing is about trying stuff, seeing what works for you and your car and what doesn't. Learn from that and move on, try something new.

To the OP, I would apply polish and wax with foam applicator pads and buff off with microfibres. Meguiars Clay Kit is a great choice. Have a look on YouTube to boost your confidence on how to clay. It's easy, don't panic. Indeed leave the car wet after washing and begin to clay, the more lube the better, no point drying. So foam->wash (don't dry)->clay->polish->wax.

And finally, have fun. :)

@scotty76 ... I'm more like a leg end! :think::think: :jester:

I agree what you are saying, I use a cheap Hellfrauds mitt... I think it's the grey one... I also use a sponge - a gritt sponge (used for tiling) and indeed, only I bucket with no guard... and it's even the £1 Orange B&Q bucket! :tocktock:

Detailing is just cleaning cars at the end of the day, it's a shame it has been somewhat hijacked by "new and great" products that are anything and people shouting about things they don't even use, or in some cases, things they are being paid to promote... it's all very smoke and mirrors....

but to the OP, have fun, read up on technique... this is far better for you than a "new" product with a funky label..

Take it step by step and you'll soon have a nice and shiny car!
