We are planning on changing our a3 at the end of August/September. We had a budget of 8k. We are a family of 4 so needs to be an estate. I want something that's doesn't cost a fortune to run/maintain but must have a good bit of poke about it. Car must be a manual and not high miles. So here's my options:

Audi A4 avant 2.0t - I'm a bit wary of this engine though
Audi A4/a6 avant in either 2.7tdi or 3.0- hard to find lowish miles
Bmw 320d or 330i/330d - these are quite reasonable but if we get snow......
Volvo v70 (p3) d5/2.4d- get a lot of car for the money

If anyone has had experience with either of these I'd like your opinions please. The problem I'm finding with staying with Audi is the s-line suspension- it drives me wife mad- but the se variants just don't look as good. Anyone done a direct swap between a4 2.0tdi and the 320d? From what I've heard the bmw engine is just awesome. The 330i can be pretty economical considering.
I'd love a a6 Le Mans 3.0tdi manual but they are holding their price!!

I have the A4 3.0 tdi manual, massively quick & economical, 35mpg around town, 45mpg on a run
