Change FEC code to get infinite map updates

Hi guys,

My '5 free map updates' and 3 year Connect services expired (07-2017 A3 E-Tron).
I have 2019/2020 maps installed and want 2021 map, but not absurd for the price the dealer asks for it.

I read that if you change the correct FEC code to a different value you are letting the system think you still have the rights to update (for example with 0x4a lets the system think you have the right to update until the year 2030!)

If done, you can download the MIB2 files from Volkswagen (official website) for free (VW MIB1/2 files are lifetime free) and install them.

Who knows how to do this correctly (with Telnet). Maybe a good step-by-step manual?

Hacking the hex may create a checksum error given its a signature/key to allow updates from what I know & it may create much more issues, be very careful as its an expensive bit of kit.

Hi, I have a 2018 Q7, I managed to do the three free OTA, but I cannot find a working link to update my MMI and maps, I have OBDEleven, is there someone on here that can help me change the FEC code so I can update OTA, or send a link where I can download north america? Also does anyone know how to add a keyfob using OBDeleven or the green screen? thank you!

I'm off to Jamaica tommoz I will upon my return. I have Android auto etc so don't need those activating I just wanted to see if the lifetime map update code worked. But on the other hand I'm thinking why bother when I can use Google maps via AA.

The software is for older MMI versions. if you have the later MMI MIB2 version (Software information, Media driver -- CLUx_MMxx), not much information is available.

No, all MHI2Q patches are there too. I have mine ready to do when I return from holiday.
Mine is MHI2Q _ER_AU22_P4212. MU1177

I could not find any information on CLUxx (later MMI MIB2 version) in Firmware directory. It only shows MHxx (MH2P, MHI2, MHI2Q, MHIG, MHS2) and MST2.

Firmware (software?) also updated from 0383 S1542 to 0404 K1549.

How did you do this to the 2014 one, did you copy and paste to a blank memory card.

I did use a couple of empty 32gb cards during the entire process though, yeah.

Hi I mean as in update the existing card, I have a Europa version 2016 is it a case of downloading those files in the link above and copying on the existing card, or get a new blank card and putting them on that. Computers are not my specialty lol.

Oh right… mine wasn’t on a card to begin with. It’s stored on the unit in the glovebox I think.

There’s a whole load of stuff that you have to do to patch the unit so it’ll accept maps beyond your original cut off date. It’s definitely not as simple as just copying some files to an existing card.

Ah ok I have the unit in the glovebox, it has 2 SD card slots, 1 has the card with the maps on the other is empty. I thought it was a case of copy and replace, sounds very complicated a bit over my head I think.

I have Audi S3 8V from 2015 with MIB1 like your, and I try unsuccessfully to update the map of my GPS.
Please, tell me what did you do exactly, because I don't find the solution, exept to go to my Audi seller and pay at least 300€ to do this operation

May sound like dumb question , but how do I determine what the correct/Most up to date version of software for my version of the the MIB system.
also is there tutorial for uploading the files to the SD card correctly?

Ok So ive sussed out and figured that my Mu Version is 0211 and downloaded the firmware from MIB Solutions, I cant find the instructions on how to mount to an SD card and avoid bricking my Head unit!!

If it's of any interest I have a 2014 A3 with the Technology Package High (HDD- based satnav) and of course my map updates ran out after the usual 5 updates. However a very clever man has managed to give me free lifetime updates of the maps and also has reinstated Google Earth. It all works perfectly - message me if you want his details.

How did you do the patch? I've got the green screen, installed the AIO patch but it hasn't updated the fec code to 0230002ee. It's still just showing 02300020.
My 2022/23 maps work when I start the car for a few mins and then goes off and just displays I don't have the correct data or something similar.

Have you selected to add the fec via the green menu? Just patching doesn't add the fec 23000ee.
You old fec will still show 23000ee needs to show as valid

I think I have? In the picture where is says "add_feccontainer.fec" .

I've just looked in that folder at it doesn't have 0230002ee in there, it only has 02300020 so that's why It's not adding it I guess... how do I add the 0230002ee fec?

I was being thick, for some reason I thought the correct patch was pre loaded in the M.I.B download and I didn't realise you had to download the patch separate... I dropped the correct patch in the folder and applied it. All working now

Hi, sorry to resurrect an okd thread and post but do you by any chance remeber what software you used to update maps and firmware on your S3? Been searching everywhere and all i can find is details for the MiB2 units.

I also have a 2014 S3 with MHIG, maps are currently on 2014.

Can't comment about doing it yourself but message me if you want the details of a man in Bulgaria who can give you lifetime map updates for a very reasonable fee. He did mine and it is perfect and he provided Google Earth overlay also.
