Hello, all!

Frosty morning up here in Glasgow - had an age old problem of the driver's door handle not working - but that was just the start of the problem. I started the car and got the heating on full blast - that sometimes frees up the mechanism - finally got the door closed after a few tries and then it seemed to lock itself. The key wouldn't open the door, either electronically or manually using the key blade. I tried the passenger door and the boot lid but everything was in lockdown with the engine still running. A quick phone-call to a local Audi specialist and the main dealership didn't provide me with much assistance or much in the way of advice. The key was flashing red, as if the battery was running out, but a change of battery and trying the spare key proved fruitless. The indicators didn't flash when pressing the key, as normal during locking/unlocking. After a period of about 40-45 minutes, the door decided to pop open when I tried the handle for the nth time. After arriving to work, the car could lock and unlock as normal.

I am certain that there is some underlying technical issue - probably electrical - as there has also been a recent problem with the parking sensors working intermittently, which may or may not be a related issue.

Any advice would be much appreciated, as always!

Hi, yes it is a bit cool on the west coast. Have you tried scanning the car with vcds for faults?. Are you in centre of Glasgow?

I've got a mate who can get access to VCDS to hopefully scan it for faults. Hopefully that can identify the problem but you know what that's like, it doesn't always give you the source of the problem! Have you heard of this type of fault before?

Scan will show up any underlying problems. Maybe the key needs rescynched to the car. I really couldn’t say though. If your mate can’t scan car for you, check out the vcds map on site (link in my signature) for local members. We have @vag-tech in Glasgow

Thanks for that - I'll get him to give it a scan over the weekend, hopefully. You know how cryptic the fault readings can be - it's like the equivalent of saying that the kettle isn't boiling, but what it doesn't tell you is that there's no water in the kettle! Total headache!

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Main_Page That’s a good site for fault codes when you have scanned the car.

So the car showed up two fault codes on VCDS - both touch sensors, apparently. I have no idea what that could be - particularly given that my car doesn't have keyless entry. Any ideas what could have caused this fault?
