Tried Carista on my FL S3 yesterday and the only mod that worked was the mirror tilt on reverse... disappointing especially given the cost of the adapter and the app itself... anyone else had a different experience? I won't purchase my subscription once the 1 month trial ends unless there is some real progress on getting things working Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
With mine (pfl) I found a lot of the time it would say something in the lines of 'action cannot be performed' or something like that. But if you try a couple of times it accepts. You probably know this but I thought I'd mention it incase you didn't.. I have mirror tilt, needle sweep, beep lock/unlock, beep on mmi, rear drl active. Changed indicator to 4 times rather than 3, drl setting in mmi menu and a couple more which I can't remember but they all worked for me
The options I wanted on were for the beep lock/unlock on menu and tried that a couple of times with no luck, even rebooting the MMI.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ah okay, I've just checked mine and they only one I have is to tick/untick when locking, not unlocking. https://postimg.org/image/49opb6su9/
In the MMI? Mine is the same. But setting the beep for unlock in Carista did work for me, just means you need Carista again to turn it off as the menu option is only for locking beep
Yes, I have beep for unlock and lock but can only turn 'beep when locking' off in mmi. I don't plan on turning them off so it doesn't bother me really
Just used Carista for first time after giving my A3 8v full DIY service. Good little app but a little limited, does all the basics great but not really worth subscribtion - would much prefer one off purchase cost & free after that. Paid £9.99 for one week pro pass: Reset service indicators Activated: Needle sweep Oil temp on dash Reverse mirror dip Beep on locking Disable start stop (love this one!) Didnt change any lighting options as not really sure how they work with regards to parking lights / what is the difference, can any one advise??? All fine but as i said not worth yearly subscription and only so much you can do
Just tried carista - although app givens an option for my A3 to have beep when locking/unlocking and we tried to enable it, it does not work with the remote fob, have also enabled oil temp display via MMI but not tried it yet, but given your info above presumably that is the reason neither will work? Is that because I have a FL A3 (not S3) and do we hope that these might work with future updates? Also tried stuff on our A1 - had hoped visual display on MMI for our factory fitted rear only sensors would work but it is not even listed as a customisation on the app unless I am missing something - I am sure I saw this was possible on the A1 unless it is a VCDC tweak only? Comments appreciated )
I was going to do a cringeworthy introduction post saying something like 'Hello, my name's Pete and I've got an A3 and I live in Worcestershire and I like long walks in the country with my dogs and my favourite beer is Scruttock's Old Dirigible', but I didn't. I'd been wasting everybody's time on VWAF on and off for a few years while I had an allroad 2.5TDI, but that went before it became an even deeper money pit than it was already. I was sad to see the old girl go. Twelve years from new, and it never let me down. Not once. It wasn't a cheap car to run, mind... Anyway, this place seems to be where it's at if you're a happenin' dude with an A3, which is what I am now. So... I've used Carista's customisations on this here 2017MY Sportback 2.0TFSI, and I can't help feeling that it's a little bit of an anticlimax. Not a total let-down; just not quite what I was hoping for. I've used it to enable the passenger side mirror-dip on reverse (which is ace) and get the oil temperature display in the DIS, but have had no joy at all with beep on remote lock, as one or two people have alluded to above. And that's it. Nothing else. It would have been nice had it been possible to enable permanent instrument dial illumination without having to turn the light switch to auto, but that won't work. And although I'm some little way from needing to use the EPB function to facilitate changing the rear pads, I'm a bit mystified as to why I had this option in one of the beta versions around Christmas time, but it has subsequently disappeared, never to be seen again. I did toy briefly with enabling the needle sweep, but my days of needing to impress a bit of skirt are long behind me. I love Mrs Phutters dearly, and if I really thought that having a needle sweep would increase the chances of a bit of how's your father I'd be outside enabling it now, but she really couldn't care less about such things. The diagnostics are fine. No complaints there. It's already repaid the cost of the kosher Carista adaptor in use on my daughter's 2010 8P. All things considered, a bit of a curate's egg. Good in parts. Fix the beep on lock and I'll be well chuffed. Init.
A short double chirp It is NOT a beep of the horn thankfully... it is maybe the alarm buzzer? But I'm not sure.. It sounds like it comes from the wing mirror area
Thanks . Just want the needle sweep and oil temp when I get my A3 . But can't decide between carista or obdeleven
OBDEleven everyday of the week... Carista is almost useless for the money.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
update - My oil temp in DIS does work , just the beep on lock/unlock that does not so it seems that beep bit does not work at present on facelifts - shame that was the one I really wanted!
Try a activating the "allow configuration of beep" thingy in addition. I have a feeling this is will add the "Tone on lock" menu to the mmi. You can then browse to it, tick and beep on lock / unlock should work.
I tried this myself a minute ago, but it didn't help. I thought it was worth enabling the 'menu for configuring beep when locking/unlocking' too, just on the off chance that was something I should have tried before but didn't. I got a rather rude message from the car saying that it had rejected this instruction, so I'm back to square one at the moment. No beeps.

Reading through this thread and I'm still not 100% sure if the exhaust flap mod works? Can anyone confirm? Rather than bother someone to free up time for me to use their VCDS, I'm thinking about getting this. Most of the features I'd want are already on the S3 so I'm just hoping to permanently open the exhausts, mirror dip on reverse, oil temp on DIS and maybe the alarm beep on locking. Going through this thread it seems all but the exhaust mod is confirmed to work.
Can't comment on Carista for PFL cars, but for FL cars I found Carista very limited. I would go OBDEleven, same price and significantly more capable and can do everything you want... I used it this weekend to open the exhaust flaps, takes 5 minutes.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have the carista dongle and app on my ipad but cant for the life of me get the reverse mirror tilt to work anyone got any ideas ive enbaled the setting and put my wing mirror onto the passenger selector but no tilt ? I have a November 2015 S3 8V car help ??
Stupid question but did you adjust the mirror while it was in reverse? I believe you put it in reverse, adjust the mirror, then take it of reverse and it should remember where it was set. I don't have my car yet so I could be wrong.
It worked for me, but you need to ensure you have the passenger side selected on the mirror toggle switch before making the change in Carista. It wasn't reliable though, ie it would not always return to the original position. I ended up turning it off and just using old fashioned judgement and manual mirror change when needed Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I may be wrong, but I think I read somewhere that when you enable it aftermarket like this (as opposed to from the factory), the component is missing that counts the amount of motor turns to return it to the exact position... it relies on some other method So that probably explains why it didn't go back to the exact same position each time
The difference is that this method moves the glass, like you would normally adjust the mirror manually. Whereas with the factory electrical Mirrors, it's the whole housing which moves. The glass is design for small fine adjustments and the housing for faster movement Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ahh right! Yeah that's right, I got it mixed up. So the aftermarket method relies on counting how many motor turns it makes, which isn't always accurate obviously
Does anyone know if you can disable the exhaust flap in dynamic idle below 3k revs from carrista? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Can't be done as far as I can see using the app.. OBDEleven is the way to go Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I couldnt see any option in the MMI car settings section do you know where this option should appear I also have the folding mirrors does this change anything ?
I thought you got the dipping mirror as standard with folding wing mirrors. Just shows what I know. Lol
It may well be that the mirrors in question have a fault. I had a customer pop over asking for some vcds bits and one of the wanted mods was mirror dip. On coding I saw it was already active and turns out he had Folding Mirrors. Advised him to speak with his dealer, was a new car, and sure enough there was a factory fault which they fixed.
Seems like it may be similar to the fault above unfortunately @Leigh Dreyer I can't remember off the top of my head, will check tomorrow if I remember. I think it was roughly under Car Settings -> Convenience settings?
