So tonight pulled on the drive way .. left the car in a position i wouldnt normally so went back to the car to move it and couldnt get it out of park. Found this very odd as id just drove it onto the drive minutes before. Could hear the brake switch/release under gear selector/knob working but tried over ride button located in storage compartment in front of gear selector anyway with zero joy !! Realising the button had stayed inside the gear knob i removed it as it should be well probably alot easier than it should of as i found the plastic shaft has crumbled/snapped well basically broke inside the gear knob. My 1st question is i have a warrenty on the car as ive only owned it 2 and abit months do we think this will be covered ? Other question is the cars stuck and refusing the select gears eventhough i can operate the plastic shaft with my fingers. Does anyone have any ideas on repair prices ? Im also assuming the whole unit will requiring replacing and not just the shaft ..
Ive googled such a problem and im either very unlucky and this is a freak break or someone has been in there before which is just my luck aswell !!
any advice would be greatly appreciated !!
Thanks in advance !!

I can add pics tonight but basically the white plastic shaft that has the rectangular hole in the top where the gear lever pin would operate on has snapped off. so nothing for the gear knob to pull up on when fitted. This is the least of my worries really as since this happening my car is stuck in park on the driveway. I'm hoping someone has had a s-tronic get stuck in park before and can help me devise a way to get it out of park, and give me the ability to either drive it by pulling the white plastic up to select gears or at least get neutral so it can be placed on a recovery truck to be taken for repair. i.e a complete selector assembly. I can see and hear the brake pedal working the release solenoid located near the gear stick still doesn't release. I have also used the override button in front of the gear stick with no joy. I don't believe there is anything electrical at fault as its obvious the gear knob operated fine right up till the plastic shaft braking right at the top. there is a mechanical component physically stopping it some how. does anyone know where the linkage cable is located on the gearbox so maybe i can gain access and take it out of park that way while its on the drive ?

Add pics so can see what's going on.

Hope the OP has managed to get his car mobile again!

If not, have you tried the gearstick emergency release button?

Hi mate

over ride / emergency release wouldnt work .. why ?? niether me or the specialist that sorted it know why

but all in all including specialist recovery repair cost £1200

a week before christmas which was obviously welcomed with open arms !! But just under 2 days later back on the road fully operational !!
