Car possibly running rich?

Hey guys,

I’ve noticed my car has been having a build up of black round the chrome exhaust tips, it has passed mot emissions fine just curious whether if it’s running too rich or whether this is a normal thing?

Many modern direct injection petrol engines are similar whereas the tailpipes on modern diesels tend to look clean because of the DPFs. If the car was running rich (petrol engine) a) you would possibly have instrument panel warning lights lighting up, caused by the exhaust sensors and/or 2) the MOT CO level would be high.

If it’s petrol possibly and depending age of car and mileage and how you drive it may need a carbon clean

You can read your fuel trims, and that would tell you.
