Car Losing Power Randomly

My A3 TDIe Sportback recently has started to lose power while driving. A complete sudden loss of power randomly while driving. I put my foot on the accelerator and it just won’t respond at all. However if I drop a gear and then gear up it will pick up power again. There’s no dashboard warning lights

I assumed it might be a problem with the DPF so took the car for a blast on the motorway in low gear. The car seemed to work fine without any loss of power but as soon as I get back onto normal road driving with regular gear change it starts happening again more frequently.

Has any experienced the same problem? Or able to point me in the right direction of where the fault might be?

Might be the throttle body, get it cleaned.

It was my turbo.....
If you switch off and back on, does it right itself?

No need to switch the engine on/off. I just drop a gear and then gear back up and it seems to fix the problem temporarily. It seems to happen more frequently in third gear.

Works fine off start otherwise.
