Anyone know if you can replace the indicator lense on the wing mirror without having to replace the whole mirror?

Yes you can

It’s listed as a separate part and around £30.

Superb cheers T-800.

Incidentally you seem to have access to a vast amount a detail like this, nice!

I don't suppose you'd have detail on changing this out? I.e can I do it myself ?

Yes I too would like to know how to swap them out.

I’d start with popping the top cover off... that will show you if there are any clips/brackets/fixings etc and where they are... it could be a matter of taking the glass out too, usually they just pop off with a firm pull

Does the top cover just pop off or do I need to take the mirror out and other bits?
Just looked on YouTube and some of the videos that show changing the cover to another colour etc show the guy taking the mirror out and poking around before he pulls of the cover...

When i did mine on the carbon covers i took the mirror out to give better access to the clips, however a lot of people just tilt the mirror down, not sure how good access is doing it that way though.

Trim removal tools are great for gently levering the mirror off.

Be aware though if you have dimming mirror glass its over £200 if you crack it.......

Thanks for this.
Yep this appears to be the way they're doing it on YouTube.
I'm going get some of those trim removal tools as suggested.

Just ordered the new indicator from local Audi, £30 !! Possibly the cheapest spare part I'm ever going to get !!

Nice one T-800.

I got sent the booklet for Audi technicians with my replacement Alu mirror caps, it’s got diagrams for how to dismantle your mirror and where all the clips are located, can send a few pictures across if you want? Very simple to do as I’m not mechanically in the slightest and even I didn’t break anything when I fitted my mirror caps.

Yes please mate if you can spare the time to do that.
Thank you

This video shows it just popping off with no glass taken ot:

No worries, I’ll post some pictures of the book when I get back home later. Wouldn’t recommend doing it the way the video shows, clips will definitely be broken that way

Thanks mate, that would be very helpful.

Proper way is glass out first as the above member says, you do indeed get a large manual with carbon mirror caps detailing the procedure.

You can access the clips easier with glass off.

Half ***** way is the shoving credit card in between to try pop the clips down, dodgy if you ask me especially as the clips can be easily broken.

I’m hands on but having heard about the £200 mirror glass, how about you ask Audi out of curiosity how much it would be to fit?

It’s a 5 minute job for those who know and they might only want £30/40 to do it... it’s a cheap mirror glass if it goes wrong.

Honestly I thought removing the glass was the easiest part, just have to watch you don’t snap the plastic clips that hold the mirror in place. I’d queried it with my local dealer and they said it ‘may’ take up to 2 hours at a cost of at least £100 odd if supplied the parts! Took me 45 minutes to do both sides.

Trim removal tools are a winner... I never had them for years thinking they’d be no better than used other tools to lever things off etc... but I was wrong! For a the sake of a couple of quid off eBay for a set... they’ve definitely worth the money 10 fold

T-800 Do you have any more detail on the tool you used to use on the clips for the mirror housing cover removal? I.e did you poke a flat screwdriver thru those real small holes to prise the cover off?
I got the mirror glass out easy enough with trim tool but couldn't get the housing cover off. Didn't want to break anything by prodding too hard!

I assume you don't have to unscrew the plastic panel etc after the mirror is out?

All help greatly appreciated.

On the first one i removed the inner part so i could see what was going on, once i knew the best way and where the clips where located on the second one i managed to insert a narrow flat blade screwdriver to release the clips.

Once you've sussed it out you'll wonder what the fuss was about.

Cheers for that. I'll do the same.

Fixed it !!
Had to take the insides out to get the cover off safely, that required a very small security screw bit.

Job well done.
Only cost 30 notes, no need for those theiving Audi Mothers to pull my pants down and smack my axse for probably the wrong side of 200 !!
