I've had an exciting weekend configuring my new S-line (without tech pack) S4 and hooking it into my myaudi android app. I can now remotely check the status of the car and lock/unlock it.

What I can't do is start the engine with just the phone in the car and not the key. I believe this might be possible using my Samsung Note 8's NFC communication but I could be wrong. Or possibly it needs the phone box installed which I don't have.

Can anyone enlighten me?

I don't think you can do it. I've never seen a way to do it in the iPhone app.

I was thinking about a situation where I'd lost my key or given it to my partner and wanted to use my phone to open the doors and start the engine while being in immediate proximity to the car.

In the uk it is illegal to leave a car running without sitting inside so I doubt if that feature will be available here if Audi honour this. Cannot speak for other manufacturers.

I did a job for a customer who had a brand new bmw 740d, he started it up from his remote and moved the car so it is possible.
Some of the tech inside that car was fantastic tbh

My boss’ Tesla can remote start and drive to him, he did pay nearly 150k for the pleasure though

It must go otherwise bmw and Tesla wouldn’t feature it.

Yes was demonstrated on The Grand Tour last week.

This technology is not yet legal in this country so it can only be used on private roads, the new a8 has it as so, probably has the a7. As I stated the law says a driver has to be fully in control of a vehicle, or ready to take over control, in the uk. It is expected that the law will be changed this year. There is also questions about the use of mbile phones, see here for all the government info https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&s...FjAKegQICRAB&usg=AOvVaw2j8Cqp9sDDJ5i6GKRm64VO
