Camshaft Position Sensor - 17748 P1340

Hi everyone,

Been having a bad few weeks with my S3...

First cylinder 2 coil pack failed, so AA changed this on the road side. I then booked it in for Audi part of the coil pack recall, which Audi changed the other 3 coil packs.

A few days later I noticed they forgot they lost my engine cover screws, which I had to book the car back in. After they put the screws back on and I noticed the engine management light came on 2 days later.

I took the car to a local mechanic who ran a diagnostic on "Launch" and found the following code, which he reset and it was back the next day...

Code: "17748 P1340 Camshaft Position Sensor -G40/Engine speed sensor - G28: incorrect allocation"

Exploring engine during the diagnostic I noticed the Crankcase breather valve was broken, which was ok last month when I topped up the oil and had my usually look around. Also notice oil on the gear box..

Basically I have been researching loads and spoke to an Audi specialist, who mentioned these sensors don't fail often and it could be something else triggering it off... Cambelt was change 2years ago and all has been ok..

Could the Breather Valve being broken cause the sensor to cause trigger?

I noticed sometimes when the car is idling in traffic it has a slight struggle, but ok when it drives...

I have attached a picture below of the broken pipe, anyone know the part number or if there is a better pipe available?

Yes mate, check this http://wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/17748/P1340/004928 it does state to check oil pressure. Pick up might be blocked.. Change the PCV pipe, and see if it persists. If not best to do the pick up pipe anyhow as it's pretty good to do.

Thanks Gops, managed to order the split hose for the breather from TPS today... Having difficulty get the part number for the PCV pipe, is there a silicon kit available and any links? Thanks

Could be wrong but I think it's 9a. Ditch it all and go catch can!!

When my n249 valves plug came loose it threw the g40 cam position sensor error.

Thanks Guys, anyone in west London that can fit a catch can for me? Also what parts do I need?
