Hi all , I had a call from Audi today saying my 2007 S3 is due a cambelt change . It was registered in June 2007 so surely I have a couple of months yet ?

Also phoned an independant for a quote and was told 330 with waterpump which I thought was excellent , got a call back an hour later saying I had been quoted a non S3 price and actual cost now was 420 . Surely the price for all 2ltr engines should be the same , is the job bigger on an S3 ?

Audi are asking for 399 but this is without the pump , I will have to consider where to go , anyone know anywhere in LIncoln area that are good ?

Cheers

I use my local VW dealer as they are either cheaper than Audi or will at least price match. When I had my cambelt done last year on my 2007 S3 (I had a cambelt go on a Mk2 GTI 16V many years ago and am paranoid now and change them early!) they told me the cost of the OEM cambelt and tensioner kit, and it was lots more for the S3 than a standard 2.0 litre engine.

i thought the 2.0tfsi in the normal a3 was the same basic engine as the S3 but of course tuned differently , sounds like they are just added cost because its an S3 dude , had it when i had my old RS turbo got quotes of way more because it was a rs model but got the same part for a lower model (which was the same exact part) for cheaper lol

You're probably right but if that's the case, it's Audi manipulating the price (or TPS if that's where VW dealers get OEM parts from) as I know the VW garage well, have a mate who works there and have used them for years. They showed me the on screen price for the S3 kit and the normal kit. No doubt Audi see S3 and just whack their prices up!!

can anyone clarify when an S3 SHOULD have cambelt and waterpump changed? by Audis recommendations?

According to Audi's website it's 75k or 5 years, whichever is the sooner.

But I know there are a lot of people who change theirs at 60k.

hello,
Just for price comparison
I have a September 2005 reg 2.0 TFSI , 36K on the clock, literally just rang local specialist, been quoted 330 Inc vat for, cam belt and water pump.

I was told it was £200 for the S3 cambelt kit alone from TPS when I got mine done recently.

I got mine done at 5yrs & 50k miles as I didn't like the idea of waiting 7 years or 75k miles. Also, one of the tensioners had developed a squeak that had got really bad, so couldn't put up with it anymore.

Might be selling it soon anyway, so it'll be a good bargaining chip...

I had my cambelt, pulleys and water pump changed a few weeks ago for my 05 2.0T Quattro for £400 including VAT. Did I get ripped off?? Was an Audi specialist in London.....

i don't know much about this subject cwitcombe but that sounds good for a london price i would have thought?
