Question, What is it and why do people tend to be changing them around 40K miles any ideas? Part seems fairly cheap, how easy are they to fit?

I'd change them every 15-20k depending on driving style.

Search for threads with fuel pump / cam follower and there are some step by step guides. 30 minutes work if you own a half decent toolkit, just take care not to drop anything into engine!

that's a great write up warren.
i change mine every 10 000 km's or less.

Nah, since the coating has been harded a little more, my recommendations are 30k miles. Easy enough to change if you have the right tools. If the HPFP has the banjo bolt, it can be a *****, but not impossible.

I just changed mine at 70k and there was very little wear and no record of it being done before.. Don't understand why some wear badly others don't?

hpfp and stage2+ tend to wear cam follower faster....

You can get the KMD upgraded cam follower!
That's what i'm getting next and will be changed every 21000km!
