I think my cam follower is on its way out

The car won’t star as easily as it use to and I lost a lot of power all over the rev rage

Does that sound like the cam follower issue?

And would the car be drivable if there is a hole in the cam follower?

Do you know if its been changed before?

Is the car standard or mapped?

Best way is to check your cam follower and replace it. Plenty of DIY write ups and it doesn't take long.

Its revo stage 2+

I’ve owed the car for about 8 moths the previous owner told me he had just changed it befor I got it it been 6000-8000 km

Apparently you won't see any difference in the performance of the car if the follower has gone, until you need a new camshaft like! I'm taking mine out at weekend for a look before my map, better safe than sorry

If your cam follower has a hole in it then your cam will be shot and you will have a load of metal bits in your engine and injection system, you will be looking at a 3k bill to sort it.
You could check your turbo diverter valve first, then drop out your cam follower to see if there is a hole in it, not difficult jobs and easy enough for a diy`er to check and you need to get it scanned to see what fault codes are thrown up.

how long do they last? I'm at stage 1. had mine done 8000miles ago

Really depends on your driving style. I would recommend changing at every service. Mine is going in for a service next month and when it gets back I will do It myself.

Yeah every service or every 10k, especially if your running a mapped car.

Mine is standard and has done about 40k. Going by the paperwork its not been done and its full dealers history. Defo need to do mine.

Mines on 71k and there's no paperwork to say it's been done either :/ and the car literally has all the repairs from 34000 miles! Hope I haven't got metal pieces getting about in my engine!

Its quite rare on post 06 cars and more of a problem with pre 06, they had to change some of the cam shafts for a revised one.

it’s bad news theirs a hole and bits

Wheres the hole? We need to see the cam follower, its a small thimble type cap that sits in the 2nd picture you put up mate, put your finger in and pull it out. oo er mrs. lol.

Could you just change the internals of the pump?

Okay just had a look at that picture on photo viewer and thats knackered mate.
Your going to have to strip down your engine replace cam and make sure you have no more bits of metal in the engine and on the cam chain side and strip down the injection system and renew injectors and pipes.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news bud. Good luck.

That sounds expensive

Got all the way to the return line to find the bolt was rounded! Gutted! Don't have a clue how I'm gonna get this off, the line is attached to my injector so I'm thinking I will have to remove that!

That looks a mess mate.
I think what I would do is first have a good butchers at the cam lobe, it is harder than the follower and post 06 tfsi's had revised harder camshafts.
I would then drop the oil out and change it, replace the hpfp and fit a new follower.
What make is the hpfp, is it internals or full replacement as in APR or similar?
If it's autotech internals you can just fit replacements, if it's a full pump you may find the nut in the pump has a different hole diameter, I know the APR one is.
If the cam is worn it will probably wear the follower down quicker so will need monitoring.
Fingers crossed for you!

Is that a spline fitting?
It's different to the usual fitting, what car is it?

its going to set me back but its got to get done, the hpfp was internally modified but I'm going for the loba hpfp, my micanich is going to see tomorow what damage has been done just hoping the camshaft is not a goner

Yes it was a m8 spline bolt , 2006 Audi A3 2.0 tfsi, don't have a clue how I'm going to remove it now it's so tight in there

And I thought the rubber hose and hose clip was a pain. But at least I can leave it on to remove the pump.
Best of luck getting it shifted

How much has this racked up to :/ I was gutted with the £50 brass nut and bolt I bought! Get them to change your hydraulic lifter for your chain whilst they are there! The known for failure! Pretty sure mines gone which would explain my extreemly loud engine

It one of them thing I've been thinking about it all week cant get my head around it yet but up to now its about €2500 if everything ells is ok.
How much is a hydraulic lifter?

That's extreemly harsh mate :/ gutted to hear it! What would have happened if you would have left it? And I'm not sure on a cost for the lifter, just make sure they check it's functional whilst everything's out! The orange piece
