My A4 2.0T quattro has just become 5 years old, with 34,000 miles on the clock.
I've just had a reminder from Audi that the cam belt is due and their cost is £349.

They recommend changing it at 75,000 miles or 5 years old, which ever comes first.

Do I need to get this done now - or will I be OK postponing?
Also is it worthwhile having it done at an independant rather than the stealer?

Thanks,

Tim.

It's worth getting it done as leaving it and it snapping could result in dire consequences. My dealer quoted me £450 so to be honest, I don't think you could shave too much off that at an independant.

I just paid out in this, £350 by audi and they did the fanbelt for free.

What I've been quoted on a 2.0tdi 170ps

stealer 1 - £349
stealer 2 - £349 - 10% = £314.10 (the 10% was a managers special for some reason)
Indy specialist - £295

As above get it done, your going to be in a world of wallet pain if the belt fails.

Also get the water pump done at the same time, they have a habit of failing and other than topping up the coolant it's only two bolts to remove the pump and refit.

Got my local Audi independant to do it, as follows:

Remove & refit new cambelt, tensioner & waterpump & rebuild - all in £372 (including VAT)

I suppose at least it's now done!
