on the BWA engine in the A3

can you just change the stat or does the full housing need changing ?

The thermostat is integrated into the housing and is a real pain to change because you need to remove the accessory belt, tensioner, alternator, pipe to the throttle body etc to get access.

Yeah I know what you mean, mine is booked in for Tuesday. You watch the video and think "yeah I can do this....." then it goes on for a while and you think "can't be bothered with that". My car was booked in for Friday but they got the wrong part, it has to be the one integrated with the housing.
