Hey team, I’ve decided I fancy a change, and the A7 seems to fit the bill. I’m looking at 2010 ish cars with around 90-100k miles in SE spec (10k budget)

I do however have a few questions:
- One I’ve seen mentions air suspension, do they all come with this? Does the ride height come down to a nice level on SE spec?
- Do they all have keyless go and power boot?
- Are the early gearboxes S-tonic? Did they need a specific early service?
- They look big, based on the A6 I believe, how is parking in a town centre?

Anything else I should look out for?

Thank you,

J.

Air suspension is a rare option, there aren’t many A7s with it and air suspension cars sit higher than steel spring ones. There are aftermarket controllers that can lower the air suspension but they’re £1k or so.

All A7s have keyless go and power hatches.

Many early A7s have multitronic gearboxes rather than S-tronic. Be wary of the multitronic as they can be problematic and very expensive to fix. Servicing is critical to any of the gearboxes.

They are big and do not have a great turning circle, their length and width can rule out using small parking spaces if you want to avoid scrapes and dings from adjoining cars. Personally I recce parking at destinations online to make sure ramps aren’t going to ruin my wheels and am very choosy about where I leave it.

They’re great cars but as ever your best option would be one with a detailed history file and a fussy owner! Good luck.

Great info, thank you. Were the early multitronic boxes fitted to Quattro cars? Typically they came with a tiptronic box pre Stronic..?

As far as I know the multitronic or Stronic gearboxes were both used in the A7 right from the launch of the car in 2010. I reckon I test drove a Quattro multitronic 245tdi in 2012 but I may have remembered that wrongly.

Yes, you must be correct. I’ve seen an A7 I like, with 100k and the Multitronic gearbox with Quattro drivetrain in the 3.0TDI. The gearbox was rebuilt 25k miles ago with new clutch plates and mechatronic unit at a cost of 5k+. What do you think, stay away from this gearbox or good that it’s already been rebuilt?

Personally I wouldn’t risk it, just because it’s had expensive work already doesn’t mean it won’t need more.

I’ve had three multitronic gearbox cars - A6 & A4 estates that we’re fine up to 75k each and then an A4 cabriolet that had persistent drivetrain issues that none of the Audi box specialists could fix - I was advised needed both a new gearbox and driveshafts at just 50k.

That problem A4 was eventually disposed of through Webuyanycar for a song but it left a big hole in my wallet and I moved to beemers for a few years as I’d lost faith in Audis.

I would never buy a multitronic again and the fact that Audi dropped the box from the range suggests to me they knew it wasn’t possible to resolve its reliability issues.

My 2014 S Line does not have keyless entry. The bits are on the doorhandles. But I have to press the button to lock/unlock the car. Once in the car I only have to press the start button. It doesn't have auto folding mirrors but does have heated seats.
Bonkers for the price new!

Been looking for a sline black edition for a while for me a must is no keyless entry and stronic box and it must be black :thumbs up:
