Build codes from VIN number , is this possible.

Is it possible to identify what the build codes for a specific car are by using the VIN number only.

Saw the same question on another forum and the view was you have to use a trade subscription system such as partslink 24.

pre COVID my local dealer has always been willing to provide a print out of a cars full spec. Fir the last one I got , I initially asked the dealer to let me have the VIN which I then keyed into the my audi app to confirm the cars spec and showed it came with more bits on it than the dealer was actually advertising it with.
