Brembo brake pads

Do you have the wavey discs on your car? I know that those with EBC red stuff pads are meant to be good with these

I have the standard rounded discs as I have a 2018 saloon model. I’ve heard the hp2000 brake pads are amazing just wondered if anyone has tried and tested these?

I contacted the UK importer of Brembo Sport a couple of months back and they told me that the current pad wear indicator isn’t compatible with the FL, so I could either retrofit the current lead into the pads when changing them or wait for the new pads to be released...but they didn’t have due date at that time.

Might be worth getting an update from them (Race Pads) as I’d like to try the Brembo Sport pads if possible given they make the calliper.
 
I bought some Brembo HP2000 pads back in Dec 2018 but not fitted them yet. They have wear indicators and pretty sure they are the same connnector as on the FL. Can anyone confirm if they are the right connectors ?

How much did you pay if you don’t mind me asking?

Wrong connecters for the RS3 I’m afraid.

They are RS4 pads looking at the box side.

Easy enough to solder the correct one on though.

Ok thanks T-800 , I remember you doing the same some time ago on Ferrodos. Ive got some connectors so I will swap them before fitting. Is it just the oe pads have a female connector and the Brembo/aftermarket have a male ?

These pads are listed by Brembo as being for the RS3 FL so bit annoying they have the wrong connectors.

I finally fitted the Brembo HP2000 pads today after buying them back in Dec 2018 . Fitted new Audi discs too. Only done a gentle drive to bed the pads in but already they have better feel than the stock pads. Feels like they are biting more which is exactly what I was after.

Couple of weeks ago I replaced the rear discs and pads with Brembo too, just standard pads. Just changing the rears made a big difference to braking, feels like the rears are doing more now. The standard Audi rear discs and pads really arent up to much.

So overall I think I have got the brakes to where I wanted them . Anyone who feels the brakes are lacking feel I can recommend changing the rears, was £100 all in for parts and dead easy to fit as the caliper bracket doesnt need to come off.

Don’t you need to disengage parking break though with rears? I don’t have VCDS or anything that will allow me to do this or is there a way around it?
 
If both the new and old pads are same thickness thereabouts, you might get away with it, but normally the motor needs winding back with VCDS. Mercedes were more accomodating in their design by allowing rear brake service from the steering wheel controls.
 
If you don’t have vcds you can do this with obdeleven to.
I would do this just to edge on the side of caution. The callipers are about £500 each of you bust the mechanism
 
You'll never get new pads into a worn pad sized opening.

Trust me when i say you need to initiate lining change in VCDS, then fit the pads, then close lining change, the reason for the procedure is that the piston winder then goes through a cycle of setting itself to the new pads, this is a proper way of ensuring it clamps properly all the time.

Also do not get too hung up on coating the back of the pads / top & btm lugs with grease etc, in my experience it can contribute to the pads getting stuck as all the road crap etc sticks to it, i've seen a lot of pads that were stuck fast because of it, i prefer to clean everything right back and make sure the pads are free to move in the carrier.

As EVO855 says to do the job properly you need to use VCDS or OBDeleven, I have both but went with VCDS. Would'nt even attempt the job without the right tools.

Done some more miles on the HP2000 front pads now and they are performing well. A few points I forgot to mention in my first post. The pad wear sensor has the wrong connector and lead length, so I had to cut and splice a new connector, not too much of an issue for anyone handy with a soldering iron etc. I also found that the small piece of plastic where the wear sensor mounts was fouling the pad anti rattle spring, so had to trim it a little with a dremel.
