Recently got an rs3 8v and have noticed the car seems to shudder under braking, feels uneven as the wheel rotates under braking, could this just be pads need replacing? Uneven wear? Most notable at high speed/mway driving.

The car is 2 years old today so still under warranty, I’ve read a few times that there were issues and people have had brakes replaced.

Anyone have any experience of this?

Also the brakes squeake a bit when coming to a stop.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Chris

You will find an infinite number of threads on here regarding the brakes! They warp easily so it may be this. As for the brake squeal, there's plenty about that, too. Mine did it and they fitted some balancing weights which has 90% cured it. But if I recall, it is to do with the pad backing plate sliding around inside the calliper. Whatever it is, it's pretty poor.

Did you buy it from a main dealer? If so, I might be tempted to get them to replace the discs and pads. If bought private or from an independent trader then you might be struggling.

Thanks for replying. Purchased from Audi main dealer in December so I’ll get it booked in to check the brakes over.

yep, welcome to the world of Audi arrogance. It amazes me that they can cobble together a good and desirable sport brand but are incapable of addressing what is, in mechanical terms, and easy subject that has been successfully addressed by tens if not hundreds of manufacturers before.

Yes, book your car in and do not mince around with them. Get the first word in and tell them that this is a simple matter to fix and if they do not have a competent mechanic who understands brakes (they will not btw...), tell them to sub-contract the car out to a specialist as you want it fixed once and for all.!

The judder you have, sometimes referred to as warping due to the unique feedback through the brake pedal, is a build up of high spots due to incompatible pad material on the discs.

The squeal is, as you say, confined to low speeds and is simply the high frequency noise produced by ill fitting pads in the calipers.

In many cases both problems have been sorted by using properly installed Redstuff or Ferodo pads. Not sure your dealer will be able to use these, but do insist that they change the discs and pads for the latest release as in many cases this too seems to work - it could be that Audi have started t have a look and come up with a compound more comaptible with their discs. Also, make sure the dealer fits, if not already fitted, the resonator cans to the back of the calipers - these act to counteract the high frequency vibrations of the pads and go a very long way to fixing the squeal.

Brakes are or should be a well known issue for all RS cars. Really shoddy of Audi imho on what is for most people a £50k plus car. New discs will sort judder and non OE pads will sort the high pitched piglet sound.

Thanks for the detailed reply, i’ll be calling Audi tomorrow to have it booked in ASAP.

If they try and play dumb, give them this “TPI 2045687/5”.
I had the same issues as you, when the car was one year old.
First they tried to get me to pay for new disc and pads even though they weren’t done.
Then they offered me 50/50, still refused it and told them to contact Audi Sweden and ask them if they would like to loose a first time RS customer to another brand.
Came back with 25/75 (witch I accepted)
New updated discs and ventelation is great, but the pads are still cr*p and will swap them for EBC RedStuff after winter.
