boot thinks its shut!

my 2002 saloon has developed a problem on the boot

it unlocks and locks fine but when you open it the car still thinks its shut!!

so no compartment light coming on and the car locks itself again after a few mins thinking no door has been opened

any ideas where i should start poking it first ?

I think the boot open microswitch is located inside the boot lock, sometimes a spray of wd40 or similar can get them going again

thanks for that i will give it a go maybe even check out the wiring in the boot area too could be a broken wire!
