So I finally got to fit a boost gauge but wanted something different. I did not like the centre grill fitting even though I was looking at the Newsouth kit but at £187.00 just thought it was far to expensive. So I bought the Newsouth 52mm gauge from Awsome GTI but with postage £93.68. There are cheaper gauges but I wanted one that matches the B7 lighting. So how am I going to mount the gauge? So I contacted an Ebay seller in Europe who supplies the centre grill vent for 52mm gauges, but I didn't want centre vent install. So he made me a driver vent mount from measurements I sent him, it arrived but turned out to be a disaster, it difficult to fit a 52mm gauge in this vent. So what's next, then he made a pod mount for the top vent grill above the drivers vent. I fitted it and was pleased with the result, some may like it, some not. Installed the vacuum pipe to the drivers side, under the pollen fillter mount I found a small rubber gromet and passed the tube into the passenger side and run the pipe behind to the drivers side. Lighting is from the drivers vent wires, I add a connector, soldered to wires and the other part of the connector to the gauge. I had to get the vac pipe from the vent to the connection under the side vent, I had to drill a hole in the top vent , this is difficult to do, you would need a right angle drill or I used a dremel with a flexable extension.
It looks fine Richard, certainly a one-off , nice and easy to see too. And like we always say, it's all down to personal preference, works for me too.
Thanks Rob, Yes I am happy with it and easy to fit. Tick over is 22 inhg, but what can you pull on boost?, I managed 20 psi.
you'll only get a boost pressure reading depending on what your car is setup for Richard, that gauge works very well and as soon as the wastegate opens that pressure boost reading drop off straight away.
