The lever has no tension to it but I can feel the cable still attached to it and can hear the latch operating under the bonnet but it wont pop up. Is there a trick to it I dont know about or is it goosed? It was working fine yesterday.

All you can do to wriggle the bonnet while someone pulls the cable hoping that this moves the catch then if the cable is working it will need adjusting asap

Hi
I have a similar problem to Deanski (though I can still open the bonnet at the moment).
So how do I adjust the bonnet catch? On other cars I've had, I'm used to seeing a large bolt within a spring that has to be turned a little. Obviously a different mechanism here...how's it done please???

I think the mechanism can be adjusted if you slacken the mounting bolts but its a long time since I had to do this.It should not be necessary unless theres been a prob with the bonnet and you have to be careful not to make it worse and end up like Deanski

This happened to my dads a4 recently and audi done it by joining lots of socket extension bars together to get to the bolts that hold the catch on the bonnet from underneath. They found out that the plastic part that the cable goes through had broken so had no tension to open the bonnet but was easily fixed by a thick cable tie.

Hope this helps Jay

iv seen the front nose grille get pulled out in order to get at the bits that hold the bonnet down, it did result in a new grille being ordered.
