Properly ****** off this morning, as I took my car to the garage for fuel, and topped up my screen wash. Came out later and had a warning message saying the bonnet was not closed or locked. Have opened and shut it several times as well as switching the car off and on, but still getting the same message. The bonnet is clearly shut. Anyone else have this or got any ideas?

Is there some dirt in the catch sensor (presume it is in the actual catch mechanism?)

Might be worth checking with all the shoot that’s been on the roads the last few weeks.

For some reason you need to give it a very hard 'slam' shut. It's the same on mine.

I generally have to drop mine shut from about a foot and a half up otherwise it does the same. Clearly looks shut but get the error too. Try that and see how you get on.

Hopefully that is all it takes, but it's not good on a car costing £40k+ is it? I work in a car factory and see some sh1t, but you don't expect it on the Audi!

So I’ve tried to slam it shut but no avail. Booked back into garage on Wednesday. Not impressed....I presume it’s safe to drive as-is? The bonnet is shut as far as I’m concerned, more worried that the car computer will restrict my drivetrain or something?

Sounds like a lose bonnet sensor then, can you see a wire running from the catch? it should have 2 little prongs at the end that either slide on/off or clip on/off. If you can find them just take them off and put them back on again (with everything turned off).

Thanks, will have to have a look tomorrow in the light and see if I can find it

I had this literally the day after I picked the car up. Noticed the bonnet wasn't perfectly aligned. Make a little adjustment to the driver's side and the error went away. No problems in 9 months.

Also don`t think the wipers work if bonnet is not shut properly so may be worth trying before you get caught out in heavy rain.

This will be the latch and striker not engaging correctly.

So it was caused by a bolt on the engine chassis at the front not being present (I noticed it and told them about it when I dropped it off). Confirmed that it was the cause as it misaligned the bonnet catch. Potentially caused when it was last in the garage 3 weeks ago, not sure but quite a coincidence if not. Anyway easy fix. As an aside I can confirm that that windscreen wiper does still work with the bonnet alert triggered fortunately

Glad you got it fixed, but it doesn't say much that they caused it the last time it was in!!!

No I agree, not very impressed that they ‘forgot’ to put a bolt back in...

They probably had the apprentice working on it! My nephew was an apprentice for Citroen, they always left him 'on his own' to do the easy stuff like oil changes etc., they were supposed to check his work, but he said most of the time they didn't!!! Hence why I take my Audi to an independant specialist for services, he doesn't use apprentices!

I hope not as they were replacing the fan control unit last time, so I’d rather ‘little Jimmy’ hadn’t been assigned!

Just looked at your dealership, apparently this is their apprentice that worked on your car!!! :p
