Good evening. I just thought I'd share a few photos of my mate installing my dash cam for me. I got the 2 channel camera so one at the front and one at the rear. It's hardwired into the fuse box with the Blackvue power magic pro so that I can enable parking more recording and not drain down the car battery. He's a bit of a perfectionist so having any visible wires was a no no. I have to say I was surprised how well he managed to tuck the wires away. The install is so neat it looks like it came from the factory that way.

    Enjoy.

Looks a grand job that, do you mind me asking how long it took and total cost including equipment and fitting please as tempted to do the same on mine?

Nice Job NicoS585, this is the exact position I was looking to put mine and you can see the ambient light sensor on the back of your mirror.

Telboy, I have purchased a hardwire kit (for next base units) for £19.99 and I've had a play about with trim in the car already and think I can fit myself within 45 minutes. Most kits come with a piggy back fuse so there is no messing around with wires in the fusebox. Im going to remove the fuse box panel on the end of the dashboard on the passengers side of the car as there is a ground bolt in there and I can feed the live cable down into the footwell fusebox area to plug into the rear wiper fuse.

    Good install job.

Have you signed up for cloud services yet?

I have, and also installed a personal hotspot so that it's Internet connected whenever it's switched on.

Now I can view my cam wherever in the world l am, either in live mode, or look at the recordings :racer:

The dash cam was £263 from halfords and the power box £26 from Amazon. It took my mate a couple hours because he likes to take his time and do a proper job. Think halfords charges £30 for fitting but I don't trust them to do a good job.

I haven't properly learnt to use the dash cam yet. Got the app but just looking through it now.

In Newcastle, he only works on people's cars that he knows though because he doesn't always have time with his job.

Nice job, currently got the same system in my SEAT and it will be transferred over to my S4 whenever it materialises.
Do you have a shot of what the front camera sees? I thought of offsetting it like you had but wondered what it will do to the image.

Just come across this thread after searching for dash cam recommendations.

Looking at the car in the garage I'd say that's Mr Shek? His attention to detail is unbelievable, I met him when I had my R32 - his is better than when it left the factory!

Back on track though, how you finding the Blackvue cameras?

    Nice job.

I haven't had time to hardware mine in yet so still plugged into the 12v socket.

Which fuses did you connect to?

I looked at the fuse box earlier, have a Blackvue to install from my previous car, lots of empty fuse bays to use, just need to find an earth point and away I go.
Just holding back for a few days as the VC has an issue and I don't want to compromise the investigation of that.

No problems with position of camera as it has a nice wide field of view. And in this position it doesn't obscure drivers view at all and is completely hidden from view. If positioned right in the centre under the mirror it blocks quite a lot of the view and I wouldn't recommend it.

It is indeed Mr Shek. If you're familiar with his work you'll know his car is so disgustingly clean you can eat your dinner off the underside of the car! He is an artist!

In regards to the camera. If you look at the reviews about the app on the app store will give you a good idea. The hardware is quality, really nice bit of kit. But the software is really lacking. The cloud connection is unstable, keeps sending notifications about disconnection /reconnection issues which can't be turned off. Streaming the videos to phone takes a long time and always buffers. I haven't tried taking the card out and reading it on a computer but I've no doubt that is quicker. Problem is you can't instantly show footage as evidence at the scene. The manufacturer /app creator has been aware of the issues for a while but apart from apologising about it, nothings been done. It seems like they've stopped support for it in my opinion. They really should hire a proper app developer to create the app.

    Hardware 5/5
Software /user friendliness 1/5 (it's really that bad)

I don't know which fuse he connected it to but he piggybacked it onto one of the fuses which was already in use. I think maybe he felt it worked better this way.

The Master Tech at my dealer recommended the 15A bank as this should be a switched live, the 30A fuses are all apparently permanent live. If you look at page 406 to 408 of the owner's manual (8W0012720AE), I believe you would install your tap into the black fuse bank. Sockets are in position 6 but I believe all positions in the black bank are switched live.

I have connected mine to the 'D' bank , fuse position 8 which was a vacant slot for the homelink function which I don't have.
It is a switched live feed.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I am looking to hardwire a dashcam and had a look around car today to find fuses etc. One thing I didn't see near the fuse box was a good earth point. Can anyone advise what they have used when doing installs?

    Many thanks.

I used a bolt in the fuse box on the side of the dashboard and then threaded the other wires to the fuse box in the foot well.

+1 this is what I did, have a decent earthing point. My dashcam came with a piggyback fuse so no hardwiring in the fuse box.

Thanks a lot for the help. Had a look this afternoon and found the other fuse box at end of dash. I hadn't realised it was there yesterday.
