Has anyone ever had to replace a cam sensor on a 2.0bkd engine? The car has been run on vag com and only faults it has pulled up was airflow sensor and cam sensor, with airflow replaced and on to the cam sensor I've noticed it's hassle and can't see how either end of the plugs slot through and what seems just a hole, does the engine need to be lifted or is there some magical way that it's done?????

sure its a rubber bung that pops out to allow the cam sensor plug to go through

its a plastic bung.... its pushes back through from the cam belt side.

and from this weeks experience, it breaks easy.... and you will probably have to take the wheel off yo get it through.....

i had the faults camshaft sensor out of range and

1 Fault Found:
16725 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40)
P0341 - 000 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent

it turned out the belt had either slipped or had been installed wrong...

I see, one of my mates had it off me as he got the software to check but all I know is the cam sensor ain't good well we snipped the last one as we couldn't see how to get it out lol! But it made no difference the car still runs but incredibly slow, when it went I got a good bit of white smoke so we though the turbo had gone but ended up the cam and airflow sensors, it does look a pain if I'm honest! I don't want to take the wheel off but if so then I take it too a garage! If this does happen any ideas of a price for this?

i took it to a few garages.... they quote you cambelt change prices... 3 hours plus...

i unplugged the cam sensor and it run fine...

Oh well! Why they located it where they did is beyond me! Ahh did it, what as in run normal or sluggish?

my sensor hadnt actually packed up.....

the belt had either slipped or had been put on in the wrong place, it wouldn't run at all, and made a right racket...

i changed the sensor and put the belt back on and got the same codes and the same noise.

then i looked at teh cam wheels and noticed both wheels were are the ends of movement.
then reset teh cam wheels and, would you believe it...

car runs a treat, starts first turn

Touch wood all my belt looks fine and only when I go past 2k I get more of a bore noise so I try not to use much but hopfully a boy I know is audi mad and seems to know his stiff so hopfully he can sort but now I got more of an idea about the bung plastic I'm itching to have a go but I know if I get frustrated I'd prob go nuts lol!

And too top it all off I woke to this last week

Normally this code is a good sign the exhaust cam is out slightly, you have to remove the roller to get the sensor off so the belt has to come off, so when you do it if the cams arent timed up correctly then set them up and the code will clear, ALSO another common issue ive had is when the belt snaps they break 4 rockers, garages that dont know replace the belt and the car runs, they dont bother to take the rocker cover off and check, that will also make the car run rough at idle

Oh well lol! If I took it too a garage it would be an audi specialist by me so a decent one and if the belt is off it would make sense too get it done too! Starting too look pricey! Now I know this I will make sure when this all gets done, spot on Phil! Thanks for the help guys!...

After all this hassle it turned out too be a boost pipe so now I feel a right tool lol! Got that sorted and got a mechanic too sort the cam sensor without touching the belt so I was stunned! Luckly the mechanic is a bkd nut haha!!!! Thanks again for everyone's advice....

I asked and he said I just did, so one of those unfortunately! He is like a walking haynes manuel so god knows! Sorry I can't help gb

Hi Welshy, could you tell me who the BKD man is please, and where abouts in Wales? Got slight problem with mine, doesn’t start as good when hot, and slight vibration/shudder on idle, possibly a miss fire. Thanks.

Done it before but you have to cut the wire and solder them together since the connector can't pass though the hole for the wire.

Personally don't think the Camshaft sensor is your root cause unless it's broken like the above post.

Connect 5V, a 100K pull up resistor to the signal pin, and Ground then use oscilloscope to see how it reacts with the magetc attached to a drill chuck...
