Hi everyone, was after some sort of guidance towards the issue with my audi a3 8p 2.0 TDI diesel bkd engine,

The issue I'm having is its started to smoke a lot on idle I.e sat at the lights, as soon as I'm driving there's no smoke,

Now iv been told it can be many things, like valve stem seals, turbo or even the dreaded bkd cracked head situation!

But iv read many posts on here and none of them match up with what's happening with my car.

Now mine is losing oil and the antifreeze I have to fill up each day its losing it that quick!

Any help will be greatly appreciated
Many thanks

Another common problem with this model is EGR cooler, causes a loss of coolant with no obvious leaks. Maybe a combination of all three but I hope not. If you have a post ‘05 car then the cylinder head should be ‘C’ version and less likely to be porous. Fingers crossed for you.

Head gasket? Have you checked for water in the oil and vica versa?

could also be turbo oil seals.

Cheers for advice lads, the egr cooler is blanked off and has no coolant going through it, and I also have no oil in the coolant. Or milky resedue in the oil, I have checked the turbo and there is no play on the turbine or any excess or out of the ordinary oil in the turbo or intercooler pipes, I have also changed the rocker cover for a new one today as iv heard the breather can get clogged up, this has made a little difference but not totally gone, f***ING cars!

Iv a 57 Plate (MY2008) 2.0 TDI but has the BMN engine code. It seems like iv similar issue to you apart from the part of losing any oil or water but the colour of the antifreeze is a dirty light brown not the usual pink. It does not like starting first turn from cold and is lumpy on idle and when idling after a minute throws out clouds of white/grey smoke that also has a nasty fuel/oil type smell. The only engine fault that is showing up is a glow plug in cyl 2 and my local VAG specialist said that it could be an injector issue that is apparently a known problem aswel as it maybe an early sign of a turbo issue, either way they wasn't that helpful to me as all i needed was a quote to fix the problem so my warranty company could give the "go ahead" to carry out the work but without a quote cannot go any further! I wondered if you managed to get to the bottom of the problem at all?

Head gasket. The clue, “Light Brown Antifreeze” gives the game away.
