So I have had the tdi tuning box for few months now and I finally decided to go Remap route with @bobby singh and booked with him for the 15th.

I have allready covered well over 15k miles with the box. At max setting 7, you definitely feel the extra torque but overall a bit tame compare to even some generic maps (Celtic Tuning) that I had on my previous cars which is to be honest expected with tuning boxes in general.

At max setting, there is definitely over fuelling issue as the dpf regen happens more often.

There is also quite a bit drop on mpg with the tuning box even though on the dashboard it shows the opposite averaging 55-60mpg doing 70mph when in reality I'm getting around 44mpg

Sweet spot seems to be setting 4 or 5.

I never got the car dynoed with the tuning box on so I can't really comment on power gains.

Would I recommend it to others? Hmm well yes and no honestly the reason I went for tuning box in the first place was for warranty reasons and so if you are also planning to keep your warranty, its one way of gaining little bit more power but I still recommend proper remap ideally a custom one.

If anyone is interested, I'm planning to sell my crdt4 box used on 65 plate 2015 A6 Avant bitdi. It was purchased directly from tdituning on end of april and had it fitted at their headquarters Chelmsford.

If I can be bothered, I'm going to try to get the car dynoed probably at Surrey RR after getting remap done with Bobby to see the results. Expected figures depending on the cars health is around 400bhp and between 820-850nm torque.

I honestly can't wait to drive a car with 400bhp as the current power with tuningbox is the most I have experienced driving though have been a passenger in a 6.2 c63 amg estate for a 10 min journey.

I have to say I do feel the gearbox software mapping on these cars are a bit disappointing. Nearly half the time I feel the car is somehow on the wrong gear. I wish there was a way we can tune/remap the ZF 8HP boxes.

Also is there trusted gearbox specialist then can do a proper full gearbox service on these boxes ideally around North or East London area though I am willing to travel. The cars mileage currently at 55k miles and from what have found online, recommended gearbox service is at every 60k miles? I average 40-50k miles a year and planning to keep the car for at least 5 years.

Thanks for reading.

Why don’t to get bobby to dyno the car with the box on the car and stock too. I know he puts up few vids on YouTube. I think a few people would defo be interested in see the graphs. I need to go see him soon too.

I don't mind paying for the runs in fact I would love Bobby to do dyno runs stock vs tuning box vs remap but don't know if he will have the time. The plan is that I drop the car off to him on Sunday morning and pick it up on Monday evening. I mean this make things clear for people looking to get tuning box in the future and for me personally to find out what the real gains are but I have to ask Bobby if he can or rather have the time to do it.

Nice. 400bhp sounds amazing. I should have brought a bitdi . Is he gonna map your gearbox too?

I reckon if you take your car to him with the box already fitted. He’ll just throw it on first. But the only way to find out is ask the man himself. @bobbysingh (not sure how to @ people)

Ive heard Unicorn motor developments do a remap for the gearbox but they are in manchester so not round the corner. If they have one then there must be others who have got a map for the gearbox too

From what I understand, I think Bobby doesn't use dyno for the remap but I am not 100pct sure on that.

That sounds great, I will ask Bobby about it first and contact Unicorn devs if they can do the gearbox tuning.

If you want to put this car on the dyno then I would recommend installing a wagner intercooler, these cars suffer from heat soak on the dyno very quickly due to the position of the stock intercooler.

For example I've seen fuel cut by 15mg due to egt protection on the dyno but on the road this doesn't happen. Its why I prefer to use the road for tuning as the dyno is just a figure. Off course many tuners just turn off all protection so the car makes nice curves (not my style).

If you want to measure real life performance differences I would recommend doing a 0 to 120 (on a private road) and plot your results. Then you can overlay them with Stock, tuning box and remap.

As for the gearbox I think you will find to tune these gearboxes correctly you need ZF software document together with matching project files, which are very hard to find. Then you have the issue of finding which maps are in use. This means you edit the correct map rather than just making unrequired changes in the tune.

xHP do the gearbox tuning the correct way by reversing the software but this is a no easy task for a tuner to do - its why Im keen for them to release a solutiuon for Audi's.

Cheers

Thanks for the clarification. It wouldn't be smart of me to spend that kind of money and upgrade the intercooler for just dyno purposes especially if the stock intercooler doesn't effect (reduce) the performance on day to day driving.

Looking forward to the 15th.

The remap by Bobby has been amazing. He has deep knowledge about tuning and just motors in general. He spend a lot of time to explaining tuning process as well as answering any questions I had (I had a lot of questions).

I had the pleasure of being a passenger in his 500bhp A4 and honestly that car is something else.

Really happy with the results.

Unfortunately using the tdituning box at max setting most of the time for 3 months, it filled up the dpf and it's causing back pressure issue. At high revs, back pressure goes above 500 when on a healthy dpf, should stay below 300. This does effect peak power or high rpms.

So if I can get this sorted either using services like terraclean dpf cleaning or maybe use something like forte dpf cleaner, I might be able to avoid having to replace the dpf.

After having seen the dpf problems caused by the tuning box overfueling, I won't recommend tuning boxes to anyone or at least if you are planning to use tdituning box, I don't recommend using max setting.

I tried launch control yesterday and the car struggled to catch traction for a second or two. First time this happened to me as I have done launch control even on wet surfaces before and it never had any problems with it.

@bobby singh is the man to go to if you are planning to get a remap done.

Sounds like you’re loving it.

Also sucks to hear about your dpf. This is the reason I didn’t go for the tuning box. I was ready to get the tdi tuning one, but luckily done more research and found a lot of people saying it clogged up their dpf’s.

Thanks for the kind works - once this back pressure reduces it will increase power further.
I do like these bi tdi A6's very little lag and decent top end, only downside is the transition between the LP and HP turbos. You can't feel it when driving but you can see it in the logs.

Cheers

Hummmm.. I'm thinking about getting mine re.. Remapped now by Bobby Singh after reading this. Mines 245bhp standard, With S Tronic.

Im currently @ 306bhp and 672nm, mapped on a rolling road, but just don't like the way mine changes gears or sets off ( terrible delay).

I'd love to get my Gearbox remapped by Bobby ( mines S Tronic) and get a bobby Singh remap to boot.. Mayb see a bit more Bhp and reduce the Nm a little as 672nm scares me for clutch life.

I had a tuning box on mine for awhile and always after a few hundred miles I would get coils flashing and limp mode.. Carista flash to clear and all good then same again, after 2500 miles I got fed up and went remap.

Sorry to butt in but may I ask how do you know when the car's doing a dpf regen? Is it logged anywhere, so you can look at timescales between regens and work out the condition of the filter? Ta! (A7 Bitdi - standard....... so far)

Thats torq is safe - I run these to much more, off course gearbox needs to be tuned at the same time.

There is a label called something like "last regen" will have distanced travelled since last regen. or you can just look at egt's, if around 600deg when crusing its doing a regen (soot burns with 600deg).

Cheers Bobby does mapping the gearbox really make much difference to the A6/A7 beasts..
What difference does A6/A7 make? Point is Stronic boxes benefit from tuning. However, this thread is about bitdi which runs a 8hp box. The 8hp i can not tune (yet).
