Hmm... well what’s the point then?....:: run them all in 2wd when doing audi Quattro cars then... saves on wearing out the rear rollers.........I’m not sure on that one

I ordered the milltek exhaust today so will be delivered for the end of March. So thankfully I’ll be getting rid of my horrible 24/7 ticking noise :sunglasses:

Some of you owners live in some great places here in the U.K. are the roads just as scenic and fun to drive on like the back drops in your photos?

    Very envious :tearsofjoy:

For the level of tune on Billy's car I would expect to see a mid to low eleven second run with a terminal speed of around 120mph. I would love to see a sub-eleven second run in the UK though. :racer:

Don't forget to adjust (lower) the tyre pressure's for better grip off the line.:thumbs up:

The car might crack a 10.9 I would say as conditions are perfect today. It’s bright, dry and around 12c, perfect weather.

    Yep seems like that.

What I find odd is with valves unplugged, change between comfort and dynamic and the engine note changes totally... how?! Exhaust stays the same but it sounds like a different engine.

Trap speed is pretty good, 60ft times suck. On billy's instagram story he clearly beats a 610bhp RS6 that should be running low 11's so must have been the track.

Probably cold tyres (or was running them with too much pressure) by the looks of the poor 60ft time. Interesting trap speeds though. My PFL stage 2 MRC tuned car only managed a best trap speed 117.91 mph and an 11.71 sec 1/4 mile run at Santa Pod. Billy's FL car is around 60ps up on my car so should be capable of low elevens on the right day.

    RS6 Performance has 597bhp, not sure where Billy's got 610 from? (605ps I suppose)

    https://www.crailraceway.co.uk/wp/drivers-times-2/?RID=231&EVDate=2018-03-25

RS6 run 3 x 11.4's, it may look like Billy beat him in the video but suspect that he launched before, it's not about who crosses the line first.

    Billy on average run 11.8's

    https://www.crailraceway.co.uk/wp/drivers-times-2/?RID=170&EVDate=2018-03-25

    I would say a Stage 2 FL RS3 with 510bhp should be beating a 600bhp RS6. RS3 PWR = 510/1510 x 1000 = 337bhp/ton. RS6 PWR = 597 / 1950 x 1000 = 306bhp/ton.

    RS6 was running 11.4's at 124-125
    RS3 was running 11.8's at 120-122

    Something not quite right there.

I run 11.37 @ 122.3mph in my MRC Stage 2 (425bhp) TTRS back in February 2012 (A Stage 2 record that still stands today)

    !

I would expect a 510bhp RS3 to be running 125-127mph+ at Crail, there's a 550bhp 8P S3 (Liam Bryce's car) that runs 130mph terminals there. Almost certainly should be down at 11.0 mark I would say. (Going on what the guys in the US are running)

    • From his Instagram, it looks like he's made the biggest mistake you can make in drag racing straight off the bat and that's carrying a passenger. If you want to run a quick time, you don't carry a passenger filming, it's an unnecessary weight penalty and has probably robbed him of 2/10 and 2-3mph. Schoolboy error, Billy, next time, ditch your missus to the spectators barrier and buy a go pro if you want to video your runs ;)
    • 60ft's are poor which tells me he's running overinflated (doubtful as he has poor terminal speeds) or that his tyres were cold and he wasn't getting the best of his launches. On cold days, I would do a launch before a launch for example and I would always do 4-5 back to back runs, each time with the tyres getting warmer and warmer. Going by billy's run numbers, unless it was extremely busy, I don't think he done this as there are 100+ runs inbetween his races. Edit.....Crail was very busy yesterday with 230 cars running so perhaps there was long queue times which wouldn't have helped the tyre temps.
    • Billy's car has Pano roof, +40kg weight penalty, it's always going to run slower than a car without. Unnecessary weight up top.
    • 99 octane? I'm sure Billy wouldn't make that error.

Few pointers there Billy, i'll probably go to Crail in a few months or so with my car, just waiting on a few things first. 11.6 for a 510hp FL isn't bad, but it isn't great either and I'm sure that time will come down to the lower 11's with 125's+ the more practice and runs you get in.

Its all just fun mate. Yes I could have let my tyres down a bit and gained a few here and there but then im having to drive 20 minutes with under inflated tyres to a petrol station when I leave.

I could have told my mate to get out but where's the fun in that? its no fun going down the strip yourself and if they were not getting a shot its no fun for them? And im not going to drive 80 minutes to crail on my own and spend a whole day on my own just for 0.2 off my time. I bought my car to enjoy, not compete. And I do have a go pro, I had 2 of them with us in the car.

And I did to constant back to back runs apart from one I went to the toilet. It was really busy and had to wait 30 minutes each queuing time apart from twice which was a 45 minute wait because cars broke down on track. One of which was a oil spill.

And yes I had V-Power. That's all my cars ever get. Plus I had just under half a tank of fuel which would not have helped my results.

But anyway here is my times from yesterday. best I got was a 11.6 @ 121mph. I know the car could do better but that's with just under 1/2 tank and with 1 passenger. Plus the cues were 30 mins+ so tires go cold.

As you know with launch control there is a delay when you let off the brake. My first run I let off on green 1.038 RT delay. All other runs I let off on amber. First run there was only a 10 minute que so my tires were still warm from the drive up and as you can see 2 of my RT were 0.0 so if I had used that technique and took 1.0 off 11.8 I could have made it into the 10 seconds.

As you can see my 5th launch was my only 12 seconds run. And that was in manual so its definitely quicker in S.

My last run I don't really understand. I bet the RS6 and he got a 11.46 yet my time only got 11.84

Billy, your reaction time doesn't matter mate. You can sit there for half an hour as the lights turn green and still record an 11.8. Getting off the line any quicker on the lights does not affect your times in the slightest so no, you wouldn't have got anywhere near the 10's I'm afraid.

Check my TTRS video I posted and the times, I sit on the lights for about 3.3 seconds before releasing (RT = 3.3) and still post an 11.37. If I had launched straight away and deducted that 3.3secs, that would have given me an 8sec 1/4mile run. (It doesn't work like this, I'd need over 1200hp to get that kind of time)

Also, although you think you are racing against the guy beside you, the only thing you are racing is the clock. You can see in the video of the RS6 for example that you get off the line a few tenths of a second before he does (you were quicker to react). The RS6 starts to reel you back in towards the end hence why he posted a quicker time and a quicker terminal speed. You didn't beat the RS6 even though your video portrays that you did, it's the clock that counts.

When I go to Crail, I very rarely race the guy beside me, I launch off the lights in my own time and usually wait a few seconds after green before releasing. The reason being is that you never know when the lights are going to change and when you should start the launch control procedure. A lot of the times you can be on launch control for 20secs before the lights even move, not good. I start the launch procedure when I see the ambers, hold it for about 3secs afterwards and then release.

However, if you are not chasing times and are doing the traffic light grand prix for the best reaction times then that's all fun too if that's what you're after.

Billy, was that RS3 you were racing tuned? What stage 1 map did he have? Or was he running a tuning box?

    https://www.crailraceway.co.uk/wp/drivers-times-2/?RID=54&EVDate=2018-03-25

11.9 @ 115mph looks like a standard time to me? When you look at his 1/8 mile splits, 7.62 @ 92mph, this is stock like performance.

(My own car tested 7.1 0-90mph and 8.7 0-100mph) - His looks like a stock car based on that? Performance Tools 0-100mph.jpg

I honestly think your car is being strangled by that Eventuri ( the filter housing itself is tiny) Just a sneaky suspicion. If it were me I’d be logging vcds and testing both on the Vbox.

@Doc, I need to wait on the APR offering for the switchable map function. The wait is starting to **** me off now tho. I will replicate APR’s 10.5 @ 130 on race fuel here in the U.K. That’s the initial aim anyway.

Apologies for the thread hijack and the 1/4m lecture Billy but the little snippets of info from someone that’s been up and down the drag strip 4-500 x may help you next time around.

I haven’t even mentioned the 12 inches of rollout on the start line you can take advantage of yet ;)

how do you know if that's him? there was 4 FL rs3s and about 2 or 3 PFL so you might be looking at the wrong one. His number on his window was 603 so I cant check the website as their mumbers only go up to 235.

Billy you can check the class results on the website mate. Lists the fastest times in order. That was the next fastest RS3 behind you.

He was having you on, that car is stock or sick. Would be interested to know what map that was being claimed though as it’s only MRC and Litchfield that have tunes available for the facelifts.

Hmm wonder if that’s 63 and 67 with a funny symbol in the middle that looks like a 0?

Never seen that before. Guess you would need to check the results tables.

Regardless, the 11.9 was the next quickest RS3 on the day. A friend of mine run 11.8 in his 375hp Golf R yesterday hence why I think the 11.9 car looks stock.

The new website layout is really annoying. You used to be able to see every race and who against when you click on the run number.

What time did you record against this RS3 in the video? 11.8? He must have been 12+ on that run then?

I’ll catch you there in the summer if you fancy it Billy.
